New Zealand's biggest workplace safety update in more than a decade leaves the core duty of care where it was. From 1 April 2027, the Health and Safety at Work Amendment Act 2026 puts critical risks at the center: the hazards that could cause a fatality, serious injury or serious illness. Smaller businesses will focus there. Larger ones keep managing every risk, with critical risks first. If you already run a global critical-risk standard, the harder question is whether New Zealand sites can show those risks are identified, the controls are in place and someone is checking that the controls work. A global standard sets the bar. Tonkin + Taylor, our associate in New Zealand, explains what meeting it looks like locally, with the steps to take before the end of December. That story leads edition two of Local Lens🔎, our monthly newsletter for global teams managing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and sustainability across borders. The 2nd edition also covers: China's updated occupational health surveillance standard, the UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and what the EU Cyber Resilience Act means for Swiss exporters. Read edition two and start your critical-risk review: https://lnkd.in/eSB8BWkD Follow Inogen Alliance so the next change in your markets reaches you before the deadline does. 🌍

We're proud to announce that Inogen Alliance has been ranked #19 in Environment Analyst's Global Environmental & Sustainability Consulting Market Assessment, moving up from #37 in the previous report. For the first time, this year's ranking reflects the combined environmental and sustainability consulting revenue of Inogen Alliance and participating Antea Group Associate companies, providing a more complete picture of the scale, expertise, and global reach of the Alliance. As President of Inogen Alliance, Angelique Dickson, explains: "This ranking is meaningful because, for the first time, it more fully reflects the collective strength of Inogen Alliance. Our model is different from a single global company: we are independent firms choosing to work together, combining trusted local expertise with the ability to serve clients consistently across countries, cultures and languages. As our membership and client work continue to grow, this recognition gives the market a clearer view of our scale, our capabilities and what global cooperation can achieve." With more than 70 independent Associate companies and over 6,000 consultants worldwide, Inogen Alliance continues to help organizations navigate complex environmental, sustainability, health, safety, and compliance challenges through a model built on global collaboration and local expertise. This recognition belongs to the independent Associate companies that make up Inogen Alliance and the clients who trust us with their most important environmental and sustainability challenges. Thank you for being part of our continued growth and success. A 20% water reduction target sounds like one goal, but it does something different at every site you apply it to. 💧 At a facility in a water-stressed basin, that cut protects supply and helps secure long-term operations. At a site with reliable availability, the same cut improves efficiency without moving the business risk much at all. And at a third location, volume was never the exposure in the first place. The issue there is source quality, wastewater discharge, flood risk or the reliability of supply itself due to infrastructure vulnerabilities or water governance constraints. Water does not work like a global average: One number, applied globally, produces outcomes that have very little to do with each other as water is inherently local: it is shaped by local hydrology, morphology, water risks, stakeholders, governance, and social context. This is why water stewardship starts before the target gets set: ▪ Which sources are most vulnerable? Which water infrastructures are currently experiencing pressure? ▪ Where are quality and discharge risks highest? ▪ Which sites carry the greatest regulatory or operational exposure? ▪ Where will investment have the strongest effect? Corporate goals work when each one is tied to site-level priorities, named owners, timelines and an action plan the local team can actually run. Follow Inogen Alliance for more water stewardship insight. 💧

On 12 August, one packaging regulation starts applying in all 27 Member States at once, with no national implementing step in between. 📦 Regulation (EU) 2025/40 replaces the packaging directive that has governed this space for 30 years. It covers all packaging placed on the EU market, which includes packaged goods from exporters based outside the EU, and the PFAS limits for food-contact packaging take effect the same day. What lands in August is only the opening. The requirements build through 2030: - Reusable takeaway options and rules for certain compostable packaging from 2028 - Deposit-return or equivalent high-collection systems for certain beverage containers by 2029 - Recyclability grades and minimum recycled-content requirements from 2030 - Reuse targets for certain transport, grouped and beverage packaging from 2030 - A 70% packaging-waste recycling target across the EU by the end of 2030 Read one at a time, each of those looks like a date to diarize. Read together, they change how packaging gets designed, sourced, documented, placed on the market and handled at end of life. The part that catches global teams out is quieter than the rules themselves. Harmonizing the requirements did not harmonize the paperwork. Registration, extended producer responsibility, reporting, competent authorities and enforcement are all still handled market by market, in local language, to local deadlines. That is the work our associates across Europe do every day, reading each national requirement correctly so a global team can hold one approach steady across all 27 markets. Follow Inogen Alliance for more regulatory updates, with the local context that makes them useful.
