How prepared is your council when it comes to planning for affordable housing? Before jumping into actions and targets, it helps to check whether everyone’s on the same page about the basics such as definitions, roles, data and who needs to be in the room. We've worked with our lead Housing Consultant Crystal McDonald to create an Affordable Housing Planning Checklist to help councils with: 👉 Gaining internal alignment on affordable housing 👉 Spotting gaps in data, policy and partnerships 👉 Clarifying your starting point before you start writing the plan It’s a quick way to get your house in order so your next strategy doesn’t stall on avoidable misunderstandings. Two suburbs. Both in growing cities. In one, new classrooms can’t open fast enough. In the other, school enrolments are steadily falling. 📍 Mawson Lakes (SA): an established and ageing suburb that will have 250 fewer 0-17 year olds in ten years' time. 📍 North Melbourne (VIC): a renewing inner-city area where we forecast 600 more school-aged children will live by 2036 Local demographics and suburb lifecycles mean some areas will have fewer 0-17 year olds in ten years' time, even as Australia grows. Download our latest report for an expert, up-to-date look at how migration, fertility, housing development and other factors are shaping school demand across the country. 📘 Planning education provision in a changing Australia: https://lnkd.in/g7jtRfhS #schoolplanning #education #demographics #population #forecasting #migration #fertility #births #ardenprecinct #mawsonlakes

🚸 Over the next 20 years, Australia’s education system will need to find space for an extra 720,000 children. One factor impacting this number is fertility rates (the average number of children born to each woman). The pandemic disrupted the downward trend in Australia's fertility rate, creating a COVID baby blip that is now rippling through the population. Over the next few years, we will see the impact as these children start arriving at the school gate. In this video, Ielyzaveta Ivanova from our population forecasting team explains how these shifts are playing out and why they matter for anyone planning schools and childcare. However, fertility is just one piece of the puzzle. In our new report, launching on Monday, we present the full picture of post-pandemic population trends, showing how they are reshaping demand for schools and childcare at the local level over the next 20 years. 📘 Pre-register for your copy: https://lnkd.in/gDz4UP2E #schools #childcare #planning #education #population #demographics
