Low CPL is killing your lead quality - but it isn't your fault... There’s huge pressure on marketing to drive revenue. So what happens? Volume becomes the metric. CPL becomes the obsession. But when you push for cheaper leads at scale, quality suffers. And when quality suffers, trust erodes. Content syndication gets blamed. In reality, it’s a quality vs quantity issue. A few high-quality opportunities will always outperform hundreds of low-intent names. - Don’t buy on price alone. - Understand the vendor. - Understand the methodology. - Understand where your leads sit in the buying journey. Because revenue isn’t about how many leads you generate. It’s about how many actually convert.

“Your leads aren’t ready.” If you’ve heard that from sales, this is why. - Sales cycles are longer. - Buying committees are bigger. - Buyers complete most of their journey independently. So when a lead downloads content or registers for a webinar, they are not at “ready to buy” stage. But too often, all leads are treated the same. There’s a big difference between: • A Contact Us form submission • A demo request • A content download • A webinar registration If sales don’t understand the stage, they approach every lead the same way. That creates frustration on both sides. Marketing feels undervalued. Sales feel unsupported. The solution? - Zoom out. - Review your actual sales cycle. - Set micro-conversion benchmarks. - Align on what “sales ready” truly means. - Then nurture properly before handover. Because buyers don’t want to be sold too before they’re ready. They want to be educated. And when you respect that journey, conversion improves - and confidence follows.

Your 3-contact cap is blocking your biggest advocates. If you fill your lead cap with three managers inside an enterprise account, what happens? You might not have reached: • The strongest pain point • The true internal influencer • The eventual brand champion And you almost certainly haven’t reached: • Finance • Procurement • HR • Senior leadership It's the hidden buyers. These are the people who may never speak to your sales team. But they will sit in the boardroom. They will influence the conversation. And they will help decide whether your technology gets signed off. Enterprise buying decisions are not small. They involve multiple stakeholders, different priorities, and very different motivations. - A finance leader doesn’t care about technical features. They care about cost, risk and ROI. - An operations leader cares about efficiency and time saved. - A digital transformation lead cares about long-term impact. If your targeting only hits three early-stage managers, you limit your influence before the real decision even begins. There’s a huge opportunity for marketing to: • Hone in on key accounts • Land and expand • Broaden footprint inside the business • Influence beyond the traditional ICP Because sometimes the most powerful advocate for your brand is someone who never fills out a form. And if your competitor is targeting the entire buying committee including hidden buyers, they’ll build more internal momentum than you will. Enterprise revenue isn’t about touching one contact. It’s about influencing the whole room.

A 3-lead cap won’t win you an enterprise deal. Marketing teams are under pressure to spread budget across multiple target accounts. So they introduce lead caps. Three contacts per account. Maybe five. But here’s the problem: Enterprise buying decisions don’t involve three people. Decision-making committees are larger. Influencers engage first. Senior decision-makers engage later. If you cap too tightly, you fill your quota with early-stage influencers - and miss the true decision-makers entirely. That weakens your message. And limits account penetration. Yes, coverage matters. But so does depth. If you’re targeting enterprise accounts, your strategy needs to reflect the reality of modern B2B buying: - Multiple stakeholders. - Longer cycles. - Layered influence. Broaden the lens. Map the account properly. Think committee - not contact. Because enterprise revenue isn’t won through caps. It’s won through coordinated influence.

The lower the CPL, the lower the confidence in the leads - but content syndication isn't the problem. Why? Because marketing has been pushed to prove revenue impact. And when you’re measured on volume, the easiest lever to pull is scale. More leads. Lower CPL. Bigger numbers. But low CPL often means low quality. And when quality drops: - Engagement drops. - Accuracy drops. - Trust drops. Content syndication hasn’t failed. Expectation management has. If you’re buying purely on price, you’re racing to the bottom. Instead: • Vet the vendor properly • Understand where your content is hosted • Understand how leads are generated • Focus on quality over volume You don’t need hundreds of leads. You need a handful that convert. Because once sales see real opportunities from syndicated leads, confidence returns fast. Revenue isn’t driven by volume alone. It’s driven by quality throughout the funnel. Own the full funnel - not just the top.

MQLs don’t die in Salesforce. They die in the handover. In HubSpot, everything looks great. Engagement. Content downloads. Lead scores climbing. Then the lead hits Salesforce… and disappears. Why? Because sales and marketing are operating in different worlds. If a salesperson has to leave their CRM to hunt for context in a marketing platform, they won’t. And if they can’t immediately see: • Where the lead came from • What they engaged with • Whether it’s inbound or outbound • Whether it’s content syndication or a demo request …they treat it like every other lead. Not all leads are equal. The fix? Marketing needs to understand how sales actually use Salesforce (or whatever CRM is in place). - Surface the intelligence where sales live. - Provide context that changes their approach. - Make the difference visible. Because alignment isn’t about generating more leads. It’s about making sure the right information travels with them.
