The tech for EV flexibility is solved. The business model needs to evolve. Together with LCP Delta, BMW Group and ENEFIT, we discussed what is holding the market back. Three conclusions stood out: 🔋 Volume per car is the barrier. Matching one 26 MW grid battery takes 2400 home chargers plugged in at the same moment. On top of that, every car brand needs its own integration. 💶 The value has to reach the driver in a simple form. Drivers expect at least half of the value their car creates, as a stable discount they understand. For a typical driver, that’s €100-300 a year. 🤝 Reliability decides whether drivers stay. One morning with a half-full car before a long drive can lose a customer. Telling drivers openly when something goes wrong helps more than expected. For energy suppliers, the stakes are rising fast. EV households are one customer in ten, yet they use one kWh in five. ☀️ Solar surplus at midday. Cheapest spot prices overnight. Together, they're making EV charging almost free this summer. Negative day-ahead prices nearly doubled across the EU in Q1 2026. In Germany, 85% of April's negative-price hours landed right in the midday solar window. Self-consumption is now worth 2 to 8x more than exporting to the grid in most European markets.
