💜 Healing has its own pace. Before major heart surgery, Shezad spent his free time rock climbing, mountain biking and creating music. Afterwards, even walking across a room felt exhausting. In the latest instalment of our Patient Voices series, Global Heart Hub Affiliate Shezad Sharif shares the physical and emotional realities of recovering from heart valve surgery, and how support, patience and daily walks helped him move forward, one step at a time. As Shezad reflects: "There would be good days, and there would be bad days. Recovery is not a straight line.” His experience ultimately inspired him to establish the India Aortic & Heart Valve Alliance, turning his recovery into a mission to help patients and caregivers feel better informed, supported and less alone. 🔗 Read Shezad's story: https://lnkd.in/g2axyveY Thank you, Shezad, for reminding us that every step counts, and that we don't have to navigate this disease alone either. 💜 #PatientVoices #HeartValveDisease #AorticDisease #PatientAdvocacy #CardiovascularHealth #GlobalHeartHub

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that can occur at any age and can be passed down genetically 🧬. Often underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or diagnosed too late, the consequences of cardiomyopathy can be very serious ⚠️. Signs and symptoms of cardiomyopathy can vary widely. In its earliest stages cardiomyopathy may not have symptoms and some individuals may not notice symptoms that are mild. For others, symptoms interfere with day-to-day life and worsen over time, and can include irregular or rapid heartbeat (palpitations or arrythmia), fatigue, feeling out of breath or having trouble breathing, dizziness or fainting, heaviness in the chest or chest pain, bloating of the stomach area, swelling of the legs, ankles, and feet. Paying attention to symptoms, knowing your family history 👨👩👧👦, and seeking care could be lifesaving 🩺. June is Cardiomyopathy Awareness Month ❤️, led by the Cardiomyopathy Patient Network at Global Heart Hub — the international alliance of heart patient organisations. 🌐 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/epBu9Ubu #Cardiomyopathy #ThinkCardiomyopathy #HeartHistory

💜 Global Heart Hub was delighted to present at #ACNAP 2026 today as part of the Late Breaking Research studies session, “Understanding Women’s Cardiovascular Symptom and Diagnosis Experiences: Insights from an International Patient-Led Study (IPEC2).” ⚠️ The preliminary findings reveal that women experienced perceived bias in their healthcare journey, sharing their perceptions of times in their diagnosis and treatment journey where others indicated they were "too young" or "not the type" for #cardiovascular disease. ⚠️ This perceived bias created barriers to timely diagnosis, with women reporting that their cardiovascular disease symptoms were commonly not attributed to cardiovascular disease (missed diagnosis) or misdiagnosed as other non-cardiac conditions, most frequently anxiety. ⚠️ Women described a broad and varied range of symptoms, including symptoms beyond those reported in guidelines. These findings highlight the need for improved symptom recognition and patient education to support earlier identification and more equitable, patient-centred care across cardiovascular settings. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eexMzkNK 📄 Read our press release here: https://lnkd.in/eMc77pN4 Global Heart Hub’s Insights and Patient Experiences with Cardiovascular Disease (IPEC) study is a patient-led initiative made possible with the support of Amgen, Daiichi Sankyo Europe GmbH, and Novartis. With special thanks to Dr. Susan Hennessy, Professor Vijay Kunadian., Dr. Gabriela Ghisi and Jens Naeumann for their guidance throughout the study.
