Game Changing DoubleRoot: The Drought Tolerant Clover “It’s the ultimate clover that persists, performs, and survives – and so do the animals.” That’s the opinion of Warwick Green, a New Zealand lamb farmer with over 50 years of experience in agriculture. His farm faces extreme weather every year. The long, dry autumns and wet winters are especially difficult. In 2024, Warwick took the opportunity to establish Germinal’s DoubleRoot. This world-first clover is a hybrid of Caucasian and white clovers. Combining both species gives DoubleRoot a unique dual growth habit. By growing stolons above ground and rhizomes below, it can survive temperature extremes of -30°C to +30°C. From sowing, AberLasting has flourished on Warwick’s farm – establishing strongly in the first year and withstanding heavy grazing. “We’ve had no issues with lambs. They’ve grown well, and the pasture has been easy to manage. Grassland farming is driven by what you can get out of your pasture, and AberLasting [a DoubleRoot variety] is a cultivar that allows great production. “This is a product that can support sustainable farming and improve long-term farm resilience.” Want to know more about Climate Smart forage?
