What if a single innovation could make your vessel lighter, stronger, and more efficient? The GESILCO® Shaft isn’t just an upgrade; it’s a game-changer. Curious how it works? Watch the video and see why this shaft is redefining marine technology. The GESILCO® Shaft represents a major advancement in marine technology, combining cutting-edge composite engineering with precision manufacturing for exceptional drivetrain performance. Its construction uses advanced composite fibers in a robust matrix, making it up to 80% lighter than steel shafts while retaining high torsional stiffness and fatigue resistance. This weight reduction lowers bearing loads and enables longer spans without intermediate supports, simplifying installation and reducing lifecycle costs. The innovative one-piece manufacturing integrates the composite flange directly into the shaft body, removing bolted joints and potential misalignment. This monolithic design improves power transmission, resists micro-movements under load, and maintains optimal concentricity throughout operation. Customizable to vessel requirements, it supports varying lengths, torque capacities, and connection geometries while ensuring compatibility with different couplings and gearboxes. With corrosion-free materials and minimal maintenance needs, it sets a new benchmark for durability and reliability in marine propulsion systems. Drivetrains are under constant stress — which means wear and energy loss are inevitable… or are they? Here’s how we tackle the challenge. (Video below 👇) Modern marine technology demands compact couplings that handle highest torque transmission and misalignments without compromising efficiency. The GESILCO® Butterfly achieves this through a finely engineered composite structure with exceptional damping characteristics. At its core is a multi-layered composite laminate designed to compensate for axial, radial, and angular misalignments, reducing reaction forces on bearings and gear stages. This mitigates edge loading and premature wear of connected components. The composite construction inherently resists corrosion, thermal cycling, and saltwater exposure. As a low-maintenance solution certified for continuous duty, the Butterfly coupling ensures predictable long-term performance without lubrication or adjustments. How can you reduce structure-borne noise, torsional vibrations, and misalignments in maritime high-performance drive trains? Here is our answer - and don’t miss our animated explainer video. 🎬️ Marine technology depends on precision-engineered components that combine vibration mitigation with operational efficiency. The SILENCO® provides substantial reductions in torsional excitation and structure-borne noise, extending drivetrain life and improving onboard comfort in propulsion systems. The lightweight Geislinger SILENCO® Coupling is designed to minimize the transfer of structure-borne sound. Its modular system comprises components with the best acoustical performance. Additionally, to further optimize the coupling, special flanges made from a combination of composite material and rubber have been specifically developed for the SILENCO®. Designed to avoid resonance effects of its components, the Geislinger SILENCO® Coupling ensures an extensive reduction in the transfer of structure-borne noise. Its composite system, using continuous fiber reinforcement in a thermoset matrix, delivers low mass inertia and high fatigue strength. This lightweight design improves dynamic response during transient loads such as acceleration or crash-stop conditions. Consisting of flanges, maintenance-free composite membranes with increased damping properties and composite shafts, the SILENCO® can be precisely matched to propulsion setups, ensuring optimized acoustic attenuation and compliance with marine noise and vibration standards. 👉 To learn more about our SILENCO® visit: https://bit.ly/45fFYcD #Geislinger #BuiltToLast #SILENCO® #marine #coupling #acoustic #gesilco

At SMM Hamburg 2026, three questions about our new Geislinger SILENCO® Neo came up often in discussions with Manager Acoustics Nora Yazdandoost – all centred on one key challenge: how can noise and vibration transmission through marine drivetrains be further reduced? 1️⃣ What is the difference between SILENCO® Neo and SILENCO®? Both coupling concepts are optimized for different requirements. The existing SILENCO® was developed for applications requiring very low dynamic axial stiffness. It is therefore particularly suitable when axial displacement and axial decoupling are the primary focus. With SILENCO® Neo, the development focus – based on insights from previous applications – was on significantly reduced radial stiffness. This allows radial displacement and vibrations to be decoupled even more effectively. For product selection, it is therefore crucial to determine which direction of displacement is decisive for the application: If the focus is on achieving the lowest possible dynamic axial stiffness, SILENCO® is the preferred solution. If particularly low radial stiffness is required, SILENCO® Neo offers advantages. 2️⃣ How can the coupling accommodate displacement? Fibre composite materials have been used for many years due to their excellent ratio of weight, strength and stiffness, for example in aerospace and motorsport. A key advantage is the ability to orient the fibres specifically according to the loads that occur. This allows the structure of a component to be precisely adapted to the respective loading conditions. This principle is consistently applied in SILENCO® and SILENCO® Neo couplings: the fibres are oriented to reliably transmit the required torque. At the same time, the thin-walled membrane design provides defined flexibility in the axial and radial directions. This enables the coupling to accommodate the required displacements without compromising torque transmission. 3️⃣ Why does SILENCO® Neo not use an elastomer? At Geislinger, elastomers are primarily used to enable torsionally flexible torque transmission and thus effectively reduce torsional vibrations. SILENCO® Neo, by contrast, is primarily designed as a lightweight misalignment coupling. Its fibre composite membrane system enables the targeted accommodation of axial and, in particular, radial displacements while maintaining high torque transmission capability. Geislinger deliberately separates these two functions: elastomer-based Geislinger couplings are available for torsional decoupling, while SILENCO® Neo is optimized for accommodating displacement and achieving significant weight savings. How do you make a yacht ultra-quiet? 🤫 Even with highly optimized engine mounts, structure-borne noise can still travel through the coupling, gearbox, and shaftline into the yacht structure – and from there into owner and passenger areas. This secondary transmission path is exactly where the Geislinger SILENCO® Neo is designed to act. Officially presented at SMM Hamburg earlier this month, the new coupling solution is engineered to reduce dynamic stiffness and limit structure-borne noise transmission through the drivetrain. For yacht shipyards, shipbuilders, and propulsion OEMs targeting exceptionally low NVH levels, this makes the coupling part of the acoustic system – not just a torque-transmitting component. With the SILENCO® Neo Acoustic Coupling, we continue to push the boundaries of innovative coupling technology by significantly reducing the weight of the already lightweight SILENCO® coupling.
