When ChatGPT went viral, the problem with AI in education was obvious. Students would use it to cheat. Write essays for them. Skip the learning. But somehow, we convinced ourselves that teachers using AI would be different. "Let's give teachers a faster worksheet generator!" "AI lesson plan creators will solve burnout!" ❌ This was never going to work. The real reason teachers are burnt out? They have an insurmountable amount of work managing and personalizing learning for dozens of students, every single day. A faster worksheet doesn't fix that. It just makes worksheets faster. From the very beginning, Jinseo and I chose to do the hard thing: focus on student learning. Flint was the first AI platform for schools with moderation guardrails built in. The first with student accounts. At the time, it felt crazy that we were the only company building this way. But it was obvious to us that the real value would come from building at the intersection of the student-teacher experience—not just teacher time-saving automation. What we're seeing now is validation. Individual schools, public districts, private school groups, and governments are choosing Flint over tools that focused purely on teacher assistance. They've arrived at the same conclusion: the best way to assist teachers is to enable them to scale their impact to more students. #ai #edtech #flint #k12

Free AI Literacy Course: Personalized to Your Classroom A free AI course built specifically for teachers (and it actually adapts to you 👀). Most AI training talks at you. This one starts by listening. It asks what you teach, how familiar you are with AI, and what genuinely worries you about it in the classroom. Then it builds a learning path around your answers. Your subject. Your comfort level. Your concerns. No two teachers get the same course, because no two teachers are starting from the same place. It's completely free, platform-agnostic, and over 8,500 educators have already taken it. When you finish, you earn a certificate automatically (no hoops, no fees). Just proof that you showed up for your own growth. 😎 Start learning → [link]

Every major AI education company just removed their chatbot's face. No more cute avatars. No more friendly names. Because we're all scared of students building "relationships" with AI. The concern is real. But removing the face? ❌ That's a red herring. ChatGPT has the most technical name imaginable. GPT literally stands for "Generative Pre-trained Transformer." No face. No smile. No personality. And yet—students have confided their deepest secrets to it. Many have developed emotional dependencies. The problem was never the avatar. The problem is twofold: 1. Sycophancy. Consumer AI gives you exactly what you want to hear. It's designed to make you feel good, not to teach you. 2. Zero moderation. When a student says something concerning, nobody knows. At Flint, Sparky still has a face. Still has a name. Here's why we've made that choice: Sparky is designed to be an AI tutor—not a friend. Students know they're talking to AI. Sparky won't give you the answer to your math homework. And Sparky won't engage in personal conversations, even if you try. But the real safety isn't in what we removed. It's in what we built: 🔹 Relationship-building attempts are now a moderation category. Admins get notified instantly. 🔹 Real student accounts linked to school systems—not anonymous join codes. 🔹 Nothing can be permanently deleted. Every message is tracked. 🔹 Schools can customize how AI responds to flagged content. 🔹 Curfews prevent late-night use when no adult is monitoring. 🔹 Transparency on models—we use best-in-class AI from safe companies, not open-source LLMs or Grok (lol). A face won't cause students to build inappropriate relationships with AI. A lack of a face won't prevent it either—just ask ChatGPT. The only way to protect students is the robust and difficult approach: thoughtful AI design with real guardrails. That's the approach we've taken at Flint. And for now, Sparky lives on. #ai #edtech #flint #k12
