Grid capacity is now the bottleneck for high-power charging in Europe. ⚡ E.ON Drive runs more than 8,800 charge points across 11 countries. As they scale HPC, every new site depends on available grid capacity and DSO approval, and reinforcement often takes years and costs a fortune. In this short customer highlight, Yuchao Dong, BESS expert at E.ON Drive, explains what grid congestion means for CPOs expanding across Germany and other EU markets, and why it has become a strategic priority. Watch the video, then explore the full case on how they integrate BESS and energy optimisation 👇

Waiting years for a bigger grid connection? ⏳ For many CPOs, grid capacity is the bottleneck holding back high-power charging. Co-located battery storage changes the maths: it delivers more charging power today, and the same battery can cut grid costs and earn revenue on top. In our new white paper, we document how operators in Stockholm and Copenhagen turned their charging sites into resilient, cost-efficient energy hubs, and what it takes to combine charging, batteries and grid optimisation. Watch the short intro and download the full paper 🔋

Battery storage at a charging site can do far more than cover grid limits. In our BESS white paper, we show how CPOs use co-located BESS to: 🔋 Boost charging power without waiting for a grid upgrade 💶 Cut grid costs and stack multiple revenue streams on one asset 📍 Run resilient energy hubs, with real cases from Stockholm and Copenhagen Watch the short intro and download the full paper.

Q3 was our best quarter ever at FLEXECHARGE! 🎉 🎉 That’s exciting news on its own, but even more so given where we were coming from. The first half of the year was slow. Many of the CPOs we were talking to were merging, being acquired or rethinking their plans, and few were ready to commit to anything new. It was a period of a lot of conversations and not many decisions. So we took a step back. We looked at where we bring tangible value, refocused on the customers we can help most, and put our energy there instead of chasing wide. It wasn’t always comfortable, but in hindsight, it was the right call. Three things made this quarter special for me. First, our existing customers. A big part of Q3 came from customers who already know us and chose to grow with us, adding new sites, new markets and new use cases. ORLEN S.A., Q8 , Daimler Buses GmbH, Batenburg Techniek N.V. and others: thank you! In a market where so much is changing, that kind of trust is not something we take for granted. 🙏 Second, Circle K choosing to build on our technology. Having one of Europe’s leading fuel and mobility retailers sign with us is a real milestone, and we’re looking forward to what we’ll build together. ⚡ Third, two more of Europe’s top CPOs have started pilots with us. I can’t name them yet (and believe me, I’d love to 🤐), but it’s a strong signal that our focus is resonating with the operators we most want to work with. And to the whole FLEXECHARGE team: congratulations! 🍾 🥂 Margaux, Kasper, Christophe, Ilaria, Jan, Timo, Nicolas, Robert, Nicola M., Artur, Max, ... You kept going through a tough first half, stayed patient, showed resilience and made this happen. This one is yours, and I’m proud to celebrate it with you all! The market is still uncertain, and I don’t expect that to change soon. But this quarter showed what focus, trust and a great team can do. Now let’s keep it going! ⚡🚀

Batteries on charging sites usually do two things: boost charging and peak shaving. The rest of the day, they sit idle. Our new partnership with Yuso changes that. Yuso trades battery flexibility on the balancing markets, while HARMON-E keeps charging running smoothly, already live at Q8 in Belgium and the Netherlands. Thank you Michel Verschuere and Geert De Mil, and the teams behind for the trust and making this happen. Same battery, more revenue. ⚡

🔌 Smart Charging vs. Load Management ⚡ In daily conversations with industry professionals, I’ve noticed that the difference between these two concepts isn’t always clear. So, here’s my take on it! 👇 These terms are often used interchangeably, but they play distinct roles in EV charging and infrastructure operations. Let’s break it down! 👇 🔵 Smart Charging Defined by the EU Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) as: "A charging process where the power delivered to the vehicle can be adjusted based on external signals, such as grid demand, energy prices, or renewable energy availability." 🚗🔋 Smart charging optimizes EV charging by considering: ✅ Time-based optimization – Charging when electricity prices are lowest ⏳ ✅ Grid-aware charging – Avoiding peak hours to reduce strain ⚖️ ✅ User preferences – Prioritizing specific vehicles or charge levels 🎯 🔗 Smart charging is often a service provided by CPMS (backend systems) through OCPP. 🟠 Load Management (Demand-Side Management) A broader concept that manages total electricity demand across multiple devices, ensuring: ⚡ Grid connection limits – Preventing overloads, maintaining local grid limits and provide grid stability ☀️ Renewable energy integration – Charging when solar ☀️ or wind 🌬️ energy is available 💰 Cost reduction – Managing peak demand efficiently 🔹 Building-Based Load Management – Balancing energy use across external loads & EV chargers 🏢 🔹 Local Battery System Integration – Using storage for peak-shaving 🔋 🔹 DNO Control – Providing grid services & enhancing stability 🏗️ 🚀 Smart charging is often a tool within a load management system, optimizing individual EV chargers while maintaining overall local grid connection constraints - this is what we do in our FLEXECHARGE HARMON-E platform. Deep dive into this topic in our Masterclass -> https://bit.ly/489tDHW – stay tuned! 🎓⚡ 👉 What’s your take on this? Are you implementing smart charging or load management in your projects? Looking forward to your comments! 💬👇
