I’m honored to be named to Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list for 2025, my 24th consecutive year since the program began in 2002. This recognition reflects the work we’ve done together at the Federation of American Hospitals to advance policies that strengthen hospitals and improve care for patients nationwide. It’s been a privilege to collaborate with so many dedicated leaders across our industry. I’m proud to share this honor with FAH member executives who also made this year’s list, including Marty Bonick, Sam Hazen, Saum Sutaria, and Sunny Bhatia. As I prepare for the next chapter and my retirement at the end of 2025, my focus remains on ensuring hospitals have the tools and support they need to serve their communities. Thank you to Modern Healthcare for this recognition and for the opportunity to share my perspective in this year’s edition. https://lnkd.in/eUXvr3fc

Celia and Jorge Monreal – a couple from Tyler, Texas – make $45,000 a year and support five children. Without health care tax credits, their health costs could soar. “It worries me sometimes, because if you’re not healthy, then you’re not here for your kids…Do I spend $500 on a doctor’s visit or do I buy groceries?” #RealPeopleRealPremiums https://lnkd.in/eSc7ARiK

Last week’s Senate HELP Committee hearing on the 340B drug pricing program raised important questions about oversight and accountability. But let’s be clear: taxpaying hospitals, representing more than 1,000 facilities across the country, are not eligible for and do not benefit from the 340B program. Despite this, our hospitals continue to deliver high-quality care to vulnerable communities. In fact, they provide more charity care on average to patients in need than other hospitals, all while contributing to state and local tax bases. At FAH, we support efforts to ensure the 340B program serves the patients it was intended to help. But we also believe it is critical that policymakers understand who the program helps and who it does not. Read more from Becker's Healthcare's Alan Condon: https://lnkd.in/e_r4fPt3

Much is being discussed about the political chess game surrounding the health care tax credits - but at the heart of the issue are hardworking families in states across the country who will see their costs skyrocket if the tax credits expire. ➡️ Laurel (62) and Philip (64) Vincenty from North Carolina could see their monthly health costs increase nearly $2,000. Philip even took on a second job in anticipation of the increase. ➡️ Jeff Feldman (60) from Arizona could see his monthly costs triple - from $300 to $900 - pricing him out of coverage entirely. With the Nov. 1 Open Enrollment around the corner, Americans like Laurel, Philip, and Jeff are receiving premium increase notices and making life altering decisions about their health coverage - rearranging their budgets, taking on additional jobs, or forgoing health care entirely. Time is of the essence to give hardworking Americans certainty and extend the health care tax credits. https://lnkd.in/gtzAEC2Q

$1,222. That’s the extra cost a typical family of four will face if Congress fails to extend the health care tax credits. According to the Council of Economic Advisors, a median-income household with two children could see a $1,700 tax cut if the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is extended. But those gains are erased when health insurance premiums spike by 91% — an increase of $2,922 — leaving families deeper in the red. More than 20 million Americans are at risk of the same squeeze. The numbers are clear: without action, families won’t feel tax relief — they’ll feel the weight of higher health care bills. Congress must act now to extend the credits, protect coverage, and prevent families from falling further behind. https://lnkd.in/eMzQJWh5

Lester and Yolanda Johnson – restaurant owners in Richmond, Virginia – pay about $700 a month for health insurance for themselves and their 8-year-old daughter. Without health care tax credits, their premiums could double to over $1,400. #RealPeopleRealPremiums
