Patients suffering from pleural effusions or ascites can spend their days with more flexibility. When suffering from increased fluid accumulation in the lungs or in the abdomen, patients no longer have to return to the hospital after our catheter has been implanted. Repeated punctures at the hospital are no longer necessary. This means offering patients more time at home, more flexibility, and increased quality of life, as well as reducing hospital resources and improving efficiency.

Everyday life with ascites can be challenging for patients. However, our indwelling tunneled pleural and/or peritoneal indwelling catheters (IPC) offer many advantages and a safe solution to make life easier while alleviating symptoms. An IPC allows patients to drain excess fluid from the comfort of their homes. Patients no longer have to go to the hospital for punctures. Our home training shows patients how to safely drain their ascites or pleural effusion to alleviate symptoms while giving them more flexibility & mobility.

An indwelling drainage catheter allows patients with recurrent pleural effusion &/or ascites to drain fluid at home. The unique connection make our catheter have a low-risk infection rate & high patient safety, which minimizes the risk of disconnection. Additional benefits: -Reduces hospital days for your patients & reduces physician time. -Effective and continuous symptom relief for patients. -An integrated barium sulfate rim makes it visible on X-ray. -Lower costs for the healthcare system. -Spontaneous pleurodesis of up to 70% for some patient groups. Studies on the quality of life for patients with an IPC. Indwelling pleural or peritoneal catheters (IPC) Literature: A study by Petzold et al. (2021) shows that indwelling catheters improve patients' quality of life despite low life expectancy by alleviating unpleasant symptoms such as dyspnoea and reducing hospital stays. Another study by Peddle-McIntyre et al. (2023) shows that patients with daily drainage are more mobile than the comparison group with symptom-orientated drainage. The test subjects were also asked about their quality of life and scored significantly better than the comparison group here too. Good reasons to choose an IPC: ➡️ Symptom relief: regular fluid drainage reduces abdominal pain and dyspnoea ➡️ Pain relief: Significantly less painful than punctures, pressure on the lungs is reduced ➡️ Independence: IPCs can usually be used independently, and hospital stays are minimized ➡️ Mobility: More freedom of movement and comfort compared to short-term solutions

Every day life with recurring ascites or pleural effusion can be challenging for patients. Symptoms like shortness of breath, loss of appetite and energy, and anxiety can be managed at home with an indwelling pleural or peritoneal catheter (IPC). They offer many advantages and a safe solution to make life easier. 😊 Read a patient story in which Lars discusses how deciding to get an IPC improved his quality of life and made a huge difference for him and his wife.
