Iodine plays a quiet but essential role in our health, and getting enough of it shouldn’t be complicated. Yet across Europe, inconsistent legislation and barriers to iodised salt use make something simple far harder than it needs to be. This isn’t a niche issue. It affects millions, especially as diets shift away from traditional iodine sources. Small regulatory changes could unlock a big public health gain, ensuring access to iodine becomes effortless, not accidental. It’s time to make the healthier choice the easier choice for everyone. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dvJ3YDm6 #NeverLoseYourI

A simple question: How can we help millions of Europeans get the essential nutrient they're missing? Mild iodine deficiency is quietly becoming more common across Europe as our dietary habits shift away from traditional sources like dairy and fish. Iodine is absolutely vital for thyroid function, brain development, and overall well-being, it's a critical nutrient for all ages. The most simple, cost-effective, and efficient solution is already used globally: iodised salt in pre-packaged foods. But here's the barrier: Food manufacturers currently face complex trade and regulatory hurdles that prevent them from widely adopting this straightforward public health measure. Removing these barriers would help protect consumer health and ensure everyone gets the iodine they need. Let's make this simple change a reality. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dvJ3YDm6 #NeverLoseYourI

It's a common misconception: Iodine fortification is a one-time fix. The truth is, ensuring optimal iodine levels is a long-term commitment that extends far beyond adding iodine to salt. As dietary patterns and food systems evolve across Europe, so must our approach to public health. Let’s keep the I on top of our minds. https://lnkd.in/dvJ3YDm6 #NeverLoseYourI

Food regulations are consistent across the EU… right? Unfortunately, they’re not. Rules on food ingredients and labelling can shift the moment you cross a border. Requirements for iodine levels and how to label iodised salt differ between Member States, making compliance difficult for food businesses. This discourages the use of iodised salt and limits access to a vital micronutrient. Mutual recognition would support wider iodine fortification and strengthen public health across Europe. Let’s coordinate and simplify so every European can get their “I.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dvJ3YDm6 #NeverLoseYourI
