The investment case for renewable energy remains strong. But how capital gets into projects — and how risk is shared along the way — is evolving. On 8 October, Jens-Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy, and Jeremy Bennett, Global Head of Project & Asset Finance, will share their perspectives on where climate financing is heading, drawing on the latest discussions from New York Climate Week.

$2.3 trillion was invested in the global energy transition in 2025. So why, with so much capital out there, is Europe still not mobilising enough to reach its climate targets? On 8 October, we’re bringing together Jens-Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy, and Jeremy Bennett, Global Head of Project & Asset Finance, for a conversation shaped by the latest discussions at New York Climate Week — and what they mean for financing renewable energy in Europe. Where does the risk sit? How can financing structures address it? And what turns a viable project into a bankable one? Join us for a practical discussion on what it takes to get capital into projects — and projects over the line.

Last year, we inaugurated our first hybrid park combining wind and solar power. It was an important milestone for us—not just because it was a first, but because hybrid parks show how different renewable technologies can work better together. Solar and wind naturally complement each other's production profiles, helping make better use of the grid and delivering a more even profile throughout the year.

When we announce a sale like our 33 MW wind portfolio in Saxony-Anhalt to a fund advised by EB – Sustainable Investment Management (EB-SIM), it can sound simple. A headline. A number. A signature. But a project does not become investable overnight. It starts years earlier. With screening. Permits. Grid studies. Supplier checks. Environmental assessments. Community dialogue. Engineers refining layouts. Colleagues reviewing contracts. Finance structuring. Asset managers preparing for decades of operations. Hundreds of small decisions. Made carefully. In this case, we repowered older turbines under the German EEG regime. We strengthened performance. We embedded ESG considerations from the first concept through construction and into operations. And when the time came to partner up, the foundation was already there. Yes, ownership changed on paper. But we remain involved, with a 25% stake and full technical and commercial management. That is how we create value. Not in a single transaction. But across the entire lifecycle, through disciplined work and a lot of people doing many small things well, every day.

Power-to-X is moving from concept to something that can be financed at scale. At Kassø, one focus has been on getting the full structure right, not just the technology, but the overall risk profile: proven components, manageable construction risk, strong offtake agreements, and financing aligned with the asset's lifetime. Our collaboration with Nordea — built over more than 14 years — shows how partnerships evolve alongside projects. From traditional banking to complex project financing, this is what it takes to bring new energy solutions forward. Kassø is one example of how Power-to-X is maturing into a bankable asset class.
