It's no secret that a direct supervisor is essential for training to be transferred on the job. But what kind of things are people doing to involve a direct supervisor if they're not actually attending your training? I'd love to hear some examples of what kinds of things other training designers are doing - whether for ILT or elearning. This Thursday, I'll be facilitating a free webinar and I'll be sharing 3 different resources that we, as training designers, can do to make a manager's job a little easier in helping with this transfer of training. But, I honestly haven't seen or experienced a lot of bright ideas when it comes to this - I'd love to hear what other folks are doing! (And shameless plug, if you're interested in several resources that I'll be sharing on the upcoming webinar, here's a link to register: https://lnkd.in/gt9W7aSJ)

Is it a manager's fault when your participants don't apply what they learned from your amazing training session? Probably. Is it your fault as a training designer and/or a trainer? Probably. There's a complicated web of accountability when it comes to effective professional development, but the bottom line is that the manager of our trainees is essential (even if they don't attend the training themselves). And it's also essential for us as training designers and trainers to make a manager's job easier when it comes to helping training be more sticky. Next Thursday (October 16), I'll be sharing a variety of strategies we should be designing into our training programs to help make a manager's job easier, even if they don't attend our training sessions. The webinar is free! Join me: https://lnkd.in/gt9W7aSJ

Towards the middle of my tenure at Sur La Table, we rolled out a brand training program. This program enabled employees to get short refreshers on key brands and learn the features and benefits of new products. The only way that program had any hope of success was if the managers supported it. Success required the manager to: - acknowledge the training was valuable - create the time for the employee to complete the online modules - and then check in with them about what they learned and answer questions they may have Brands that participated in the program saw an increase in sales, but it wasn't just because of the employees selling the product, it was the manager's support that contributed too. ⭐ How managers support training matters! ⭐ If you want to learn more about how to leverage manager support for your training programs, don't miss our webinar next week.
