“Egypt’s National Water Resources Plan… securing water sustainability for Egypt” The National Water Resources Plan (NWRP) is Egypt’s comprehensive strategy to protect its water resources and ensure their sustainable use. It was first developed in 2005 for the period up to 2017 with support from the Netherlands, and later updated in 2021 to cover the period until 2037, again in close cooperation with the Netherlands. The plan focuses on four main pillars: 📌 Increasing the availability of freshwater resources 📌 Improving water quality 📌Enhancing water use efficiency 📌 Strengthening governance and the institutional framework Key actions include expanding water reuse, investing in desalination projects, and advancing governance and capacity building, all supported through cooperation with the Netherlands. #50Years_Water_Collaboration 💧 Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, Ministry of Water Resources & Irrigation, Netherlands Enterprise Agency, Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat, Hani Sewilam, Meike van Ginneken, Partners For Water, Holding Company for Water and Waste Water (HCWW), Inclusive Green Growth Department

In Upper Egypt, the water crisis was more than a service issue — it shaped everyday life. Through a strong partnership between The Netherlands and Egypt, that challenge became an opportunity for real transformation. From empowering citizens — especially women — to take part in assessing services, to upgrading complaint systems and introducing smarter, more sustainable technologies. A meaningful step toward more efficient, responsive water and sanitation services — and a model that can be replicated beyond Upper Egypt. #50Years_Water_Collaboration 💧 Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, Ministry Of Water Resources & Irrigation, Netherlands Enterprise Agency, Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat, Hani Sewilam, Meike van Ginneken, Partners For Water, Holding Company for Water and Waste Water (HCWW), Inclusive Green Growth Department, VNG International, Ministry of Local Development
