📱 Apple just built China its own AI model, with Alibaba's help, because Claude and ChatGPT aren't available there. What does that say about doing business in markets that write their own rules? Reuters reports Apple trained a custom AI model for China, built with Alibaba's Qwen alongside technology from Baidu. In July, China's Cyberspace Administration registered the service, making Apple the first foreign company approved to offer a proprietary AI model there. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 is expected on iPhones, iPads, Macs and Vision Pro 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 within months, after losing ground to Huawei's AI-equipped devices. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? A standard global product rarely survives contact with local regulation. Apple needed a local partner and a market-specific build just to compete on equal footing. 📌 Operating in a regulated market takes more than a good product: • 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹: Alibaba's involvement was the path to market access, not a preference. • 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Apple's registration took months of coordination with Chinese authorities. • 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁: the same offering often needs a different setup per region's rules. Companies moving freight or sourcing goods across borders face the same reality: procurement and compliance built for one market rarely transfers cleanly to another. What's the biggest adjustment your organization has made to operate in a market with its own rules? Easy4Pro, part of Redspher Group #GlobalTrade #SupplyChain #TradeCompliance #Localization #Easy4Pro

🌊 Water depth at a key Rhine chokepoint dropped to levels last seen in 2018. Cargo vessels are still sailing, just not full. Reuters reports that Germany's inland navigation agency recorded the Rhine's water depth near Kaub, close to Koblenz, falling to around 25 cm this week, matching the record low set in 2018, with forecasts pointing to further drops. The heatwave and lack of rainfall behind it mean vessels are often sailing only 20% loaded, and cargo has to be split across more vessels to keep moving at all. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? Because the Rhine carries grains, minerals, ores, coal and refined fuel for German industry. When draft restrictions cut capacity per vessel, the cost per tonne moved climbs fast, and it climbs for everyone on the river at the same time. 📌 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀: • Mode diversification isn't optional here. Companies already leaning on road and rail as backup are absorbing this shock better than those fully dependent on barge. • Surcharges move faster than contracts. Low water surcharges get added within days, while most freight agreements take weeks to renegotiate. • This has happened before. German industry saw similar bottlenecks in 2022. Seasonal drought risk on inland waterways is now a planning input, not a surprise. At Easy4Pro, we help industrial teams keep road, rail and multimodal options ready to activate the moment a single lane tightens. How exposed is your freight network to seasonal waterway disruptions like this one? Easy4Pro, part of Redspher Group #SupplyChain #InlandShipping #FreightProcurement #LogisticsStrategy #Easy4Pro
