𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟯𝗽𝗺, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 This Dementia Awareness Month, I’ve been reflecting on what truly makes a difference for people living with dementia. For me, it comes down to one thing: familiarity. Continuity and stable relationships aren’t just comforting, they’re protective. Familiar caregivers and steady routines provide the consistency needed to reduce stress, preserve dignity, and create a sense of safety. I’m often asked: Does it really matter if the same people come back day after day? From what I’ve seen, and what research confirms, the answer is yes. Trusted relationships make all the difference. The numbers underline the point: • 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟮 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟲𝟱 are now living with dementia. • 𝟴𝟱% 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, surrounded by people and places they know. • Those who receive 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻-𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟯𝟬% 𝗳𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, because familiar caregivers notice small changes before they become crises. But there’s another layer we can’t ignore: 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴. Studies show that agitation and confusion often peak in the 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟯–𝟴 𝗽𝗺). This “𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴” period is when fragile routines are most at risk, and when unfamiliar faces can trigger the greatest distress. Continuity is critical in these hours. Without it, families might face higher medication errors, more readmissions, and greater anxiety as residents struggle to trust new people. With it, three powerful advantages emerge: • Familiarity that reduces disorientation, • Peace of mind for relatives • Tailored care that preserves dignity. At 𝗗𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗮, I’m proud that our 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 safeguards this continuity. Each client is supported by a small, dedicated team that builds trust over time, making care proactive, not reactive. Because in dementia care, continuity isn’t a luxury. It’s the foundation for dignity, stability, and peace of mind.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁 We all read the same aging maps with the percentage 65+, growth curves, dependency ratios. Useful, but incomplete. As Alfred Korzybski warned, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘱 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺: what wins in home-based care is how aging shows up block by block. In some cities it stacks vertically, in others it sprawls horizontally, or clusters, or climbs stairs. When you match your model to the territory, it unlocks local connection that allows for trusting relationships to be the force multiplier for scaling care. Aging percentages tell you 𝘸𝘩𝘰; city geometry helps tell you 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. When your ops mirror the territory’s structure, the “map error” shrinks, and conversion speed, starts of care, and family trust rise. The way people age is shaped by the city itself, different geometries, same reality: aging isn’t uniform, and care models that ignore geography face challenges in adapting their operations. • In 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼, it stacks vertically, as the population and immigration boom was largely built on post-war planning, which led to “tower-in-the-park” apartment blocks across the inner suburbs and now has 489 high-rise retirement community buildings housing ~70,000 older adults. By 2041, ~42% of older adults in Toronto are projected to live in “vertical communities.” • In 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲, it sprawls horizontally, at ~874 sq mi with relatively low density, the city spreads need across distance. One of the largest U.S. cities by land area, its auto-first infrastructure (I-95, I-10, I-295) led to its aging population being dispersed across ever-expanding subdivisions. • In 𝗦𝘆𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆, it follows rail corridors. The city’s ring of national parks, ridges, and waterways limits outward sprawl, so the city expanded homes and services along existing rail corridors. Older residents concentrate along these train corridors and inner bayside suburbs. • In 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺, it’s about climbing stairs, as centuries of narrow canal houses, taxed by frontage, left Amsterdam with steep, space-saving stairs. Aging residents are forced to deal with most homes having walk-ups and stairs throughout. To reach people where they are, operations need to mirror the terrain: • Tune your teams to the shape of the city, not just the size of demand. • Build connection systems, not templates; local trust scales faster than distance. • Keep updating your map, because the territory is always changing. At Dovida, our 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 connects families, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and our local office support teams so we can tune the connection pattern to each city’s shape. Same service quality, different routes to reach people fast. Care doesn’t scale by ignoring the local community; it scales by fitting the ground beneath it. 11,000 Americans turn 65 every day. It's the largest demographic shift in US history, and not enough sales professionals and entrepreneurs are building a business around it. Here's the problem: 70% of them will eventually need long term care, and most families have no idea where to start. Helping families through that is the business. Home care is recession proof and growing every year. Dovida has spent 20 years proving the model. Now we're looking for people who want to build a business in senior care, with recurring income for every family they serve. If you're good at building relationships and trust, watch the video or reach out. I can help you decide if this opportunity is a good fit.
