This #InclusionAtWorkWeek, we are honoured to share a message from our Patron, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia. As Diversity Council Australia (DCA) marks 40 years of championing workplace inclusion, the Governor-General reflects on the progress we’ve made, and the work still ahead – and encourages organisations across the nation to get involved and share their stories of inclusion. “In the last four decades, Australia has made enormous progress in equity and inclusion at work. Inclusion at Work Week is once again a springboard to go even further,” the Governor-General said. "It’s an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our workplaces, and for leaders in particular to ask if the organisations they lead genuinely foster a sense of belonging.” Inclusion at Work Week is a national opportunity to reflect, celebrate and recommit to building workplaces where everyone has equitable opportunities to succeed. DCA members and non-members can join the conversation from 17–21 November 2025 by sharing their stories of inclusion and the steps they are taking to create more inclusive and equitable workplaces. 🔗Register for Inclusion at Work Week 2025 and watch the full message from the Governor-General here: https://ow.ly/aIsy50XgH9m #InclusionAtWork #DiversityAndInclusion #WorkplaceEquity #InclusionMatters #EquitableWorkplaces #WorkplaceDiversity

As AI transforms workplaces, the assumption that older workers are less able to adapt is becoming increasingly common. Age Discrimination Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald AM explains why writing off older workers may be one of the biggest mistakes organisations can make, and why experience, judgement and critical thinking remain essential in the age of AI. We've collaborated with the Australian Human Rights Commission to examine how age-based assumptions are shaping who is respected, included and supported at work. Ageism is so deeply normalised that many workers simply accept it as “the way things are” and it's woven into the fabric of workplace culture. When discrimination is this ubiquitous, workers and bystanders rarely feel empowered to call it out. Age Discrimination Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald AM says it's time to disrupt ageism at work.

Young carers are navigating more than just the early stages of their careers. New research from our collaboration with the Australian Human Rights Commission shows younger workers with caring responsibilities face significantly higher levels of exclusion at work than their peers. Nearly 3 in 5 younger carers (59%) reported experiencing discrimination or harassment at work in the past 12 months, compared with 32% of younger workers without caring responsibilities. They also report far more discrimination and harassment at work than carers in any other age group. The challenges don't stop there. Younger carers were also much more likely to report being ignored at work, left out of workplace social activities, and having others make assumptions about their abilities. More than half said they had experienced these forms of everyday exclusion. These findings highlight that caring responsibilities can shape workplace experiences in profound ways, particularly for younger employees building their careers. 🔗 Read the full Age, Assumptions and Access at Work report to learn more about age inclusion and what employers can do to create workplaces where everyone can thrive → https://ow.ly/pc6i50ZmK7Z
