In response to rising global health needs and growing strain on public health systems, Direct Relief has opened a new European headquarters to enhance its ability to deliver essential medical resources to communities facing urgent health challenges. The new European headquarters, based in Frankfurt and legally registered in Germany as Direct Relief gGmbH, will serve as a logistics and partnership hub, building on long-standing collaborations with European pharmaceutical and medical product manufacturers. Over the past decade, Direct Relief has delivered more than $16 billion in medical aid worldwide — with roughly a quarter of those medicines originating in Europe. “This expansion reflects Direct Relief’s commitment to addressing urgent health needs wherever they arise. Establishing a presence in Europe enables greater collaboration and helps ensure that critical medical resources reach the people and places that need them most—quickly and reliably,” said Amy Weaver, CEO of Direct Relief. https://bit.ly/3LsiXf4

Thanks to the support of The Miami HEAT and in partnership with the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation and Carnival Corporation, Direct Relief is preparing a new 64-ton shipment of critical medical supplies for Jamaica as the country continues to face significant health needs following Hurricane Melissa. The two upcoming shipments — a chartered airlift and a second shipment traveling by sea with Carnival — are expected to depart Miami on December 13 and 14 and will include medicines and supplies requested by Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and Wellness. With more than 279,000 people displaced and over 120 health facilities damaged, the requested medicines, hygiene kits, and protective supplies will support care across hard-hit communities as recovery continues. These new shipments build on earlier deliveries of more than 30 tons of medical aid across the Caribbean and $130,000 in emergency operating grants to partners in Jamaica. Direct Relief is grateful to be named an awardee of Action for Women’s Health, a global initiative funded by Pivotal Ventures and managed by Lever for Change. Too many women around the world still face life-threatening complications during pregnancy and childbirth, often because they lack access to basic medical tools and trained care. Direct Relief’s Maternal and Child Health Program helps close this gap by equipping midwives with the resources they need to provide safe, high-quality care, including Midwife Kits, each designed to support 50 safe births. With this investment, Direct Relief will expand access to lifesaving care for more women and newborns globally. Learn more at the link: https://bit.ly/47Nlata
