Fraud Awareness & Prevention Week: 17 – 21 November 2025 Fraud is on the rise across industries that offer trade credit — and staying aware is one of the most effective ways to protect your business. Recent insights from credit insurers show a number of recurring fraud methods that every organisation should keep on their radar. Here’s what you need to know 👇 ⚠️ Common Fraud Types We’re Seeing 1️⃣ Corporate Identity Theft / Buyer Impersonation Fraudsters pose as legitimate buyers using forged documents. Once goods are collected or delivered to an alternative address, they disappear — and so does the payment. 2️⃣ Fake or Newly “Reactivated” Businesses Some criminals set up convincing businesses (or revive dormant ones). They start small, build trust, then place a large final order and vanish with the goods. 3️⃣ Payment Interception Criminals impersonate suppliers and send fake “banking detail update” notices. Payments then get diverted into fraudulent accounts. Always verify changes using trusted contact details you obtain independently. 🚩 Red Flags to Watch For 🔴 Requests to collect goods instead of using normal delivery channels 🔴 Suspicious or generic email addresses 🔴 Dormant clients suddenly placing frequent or large orders 🔴 Odd-looking documents (logos, spelling errors, formatting issues) 🔴 Early requests for financial information 🔴 Orders outside the buyer’s typical product line 🔴 Requests for third-party or cross-border shipments 🔴 Notifications of changed banking details 🔒 Stay Vigilant Awareness, verification, and strong internal controls go a long way in reducing fraud risk. Ensure your teams know what to watch for and double-check anything that feels off. Together, we can help keep your business — and the broader trading environment — secure.

📊 The cost of doing nothing about credit risk Many businesses underestimate the silent impact of poor credit control — until the numbers tell the story. Let’s look at what inaction can really cost: 💸 Reduced profit margins – Late payments can cut margins by up to 5–10%, as working capital gets tied up in overdue invoices. 🧾 Increased write-offs – On average, 1 in 10 B2B invoices becomes bad debt when credit policies aren’t enforced. ⏳ Longer DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) – Just a 15-day delay in payment collection can squeeze cash flow and limit growth capacity. 📉 Reputational impact – Inconsistent credit control can reduce your reliability score with insurers, investors, and suppliers. The numbers add up — fast. 👉 Take action today: review your credit portfolio, identify exposure, and ensure your business is trading safely and sustainably. #CreditManagement #CreditRisk #CashFlow #B2B #Debtsource

📍 Scenario: A loyal client — always reliable — suddenly stops responding to payment reminders. Their account is 45 days overdue, and your sales rep says they’ve “just been busy.” Do you: A) Wait another month — they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt B) Pause deliveries until they make contact C) Escalate to collections immediately D) Investigate quietly while maintaining the relationship ✅ Best move: D — Investigate quietly while maintaining the relationship. Here’s why: sudden silence can signal early financial stress, but reacting too harshly can damage trust. Gather insight — check their payment history, industry trends, and credit signals. If red flags appear, tighten terms or pause exposure before the account becomes a write-off. Additionally, consider placing monitoring alerts on your debtors, which gives you a heads up if a debtor goes into business rescue or liquidation Effective credit management means staying proactive, not reactive. #CreditManagement #CreditRisk #CashFlow #Debtsource #B2BFinance
