WOW. What a discussion in Amsterdam. 🗣️ "Twenty years ago, associates rarely joined client meetings. Today, being in the room matters. Understanding the client, reading the dynamics and building relationships are central to becoming a better dealmaker." Marco WM Gulpers (BNP Paribas), Sybren de Beurs (NautaDutilh), and Daan Freriks (Gilde Equity Management), brought three distinct perspectives to the conversation. The strongest message from the room was not about replacing people. It was about raising the standard of their work. More output is not the goal, but better judgment is. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: - Yes - AI can read documents, but it can't read the room like humans can. And that's the difference that still decides deals. Human judgment remains essential. - The outlook and market view was encouraging. Larger transactions have moved back into focus since the summer, while defence and technology continue to drive activity. - In banking - the challenge is avoiding a sea of sameness and turning model output into advice shaped around the client. • In legal diligence, AI processes large volumes of information and gets teams much of the way. It does not remove the need to test false negatives, understand nuance or take responsibility for the conclusion. • In private equity, AI unlocks years of data, removes repetitive work and lets teams assess more opportunities in greater depth. It informs the investment decision, but it does not make it. - For junior dealmakers, the advice is to learn to challenge models, refine outputs and spot weak answers. Invest in storytelling, emotional intelligence, client understanding and building networks. - Use the time AI gives back to get closer to clients, founders and colleagues. The end game is still negotiation, trust and knowing when to act. Thank you to Marco, Sybren and Daan for sharing their perspectives, to Diederik de Greef and Maxime Noël for helping lead the discussion and the product demo, and to everyone else who joined us in a busy Amsterdam room
