Take a minute to listen to T.J. Sharpe. His story as a clinical trial participant is gripping. At Curavit, we believe that every clinical trial participant has a story worth hearing — and that their experiences can help shape a stronger, more inclusive, and more compassionate clinical research ecosystem. In this episode, TJ shares his melanoma journey and provides a deep dive into what it was like to be the first patient to receive a new treatment. Is a High Screen Fail Rate Bad? Not if you’re running a Decentralized Clinical Trial powered by digital recruitment. In traditional site-based studies, a “screen fail rate” can be a clear indicator of site efficiency and expertise. But in decentralized trials that leverage digital advertising and a virtual clinical site, that metric can be misleading. At Curavit, our virtual site model intentionally casts a wider, more inclusive net. We don’t start with a participant’s medical record. Instead, we verify eligibility from scratch: reviewing self-reported data, accessing medical records later in the process, incorporating device data, and conducting structured clinical interviews for every potential participant. Our clients are thrilled with our results. As the press releases highlights, we beat our enrollment schedule by two months, enrolling 298 qualified participants who met strict inclusion/exclusion criteria and represented diverse geographies and demographics that traditional sites often miss. Yet our detailed screening process showed an 80% screen-fail rate, because we screened everyone, not just those already known in a medical record system. So next time you see a high screen-fail rate in a decentralized study, remember: It’s not inefficiency — it’s access, rigor, and representation in action. #DecentralizedTrials #ClinicalResearch #DigitalRecruitment #Curavit #InnovationCRO #ClinicalTrials #VirtualSite #DCT https://lnkd.in/eTYnH4UB

Beating the illness is only half the battle. What is it really like to navigate severe steroid withdrawal syndrome? In this clip from The Participant’s Story, host Dave Hanaman sits down with Pete Wisowaty to discuss the grueling aftermath of treatment and the physical toll of steroid withdrawal syndrome What you will learn: The Tapering Process: After being released from the hospital, Pete’s care team spent five months very slowly weaning him off of prednisone and other medications. The 72-Hour Shock: Even with a slow taper, stopping the steroids completely caused his body to "freeze up" within just 72 hours, leading to intense muscle and joint soreness that he still addresses today. Critical Insight for Sponsors: The clinical trial experience doesn't end when the drug administration stops. Long-term follow-up and robust post-trial care protocols are essential to support patients through challenging withdrawal phases and secondary side effects. "You have leukemia. Don't get on that plane." In this clip from The Participant’s Story, host Dave Hanaman sits down with his friend Pete Wisowaty to recall the exact moment his life changed in the summer of 2014, and the subtle early warning signs that led to his diagnosis. In this episode: Hidden Symptoms: What Pete initially wrote off as dehydration from swimming and working out turned out to be early night sweats indicative of leukemia. The Defining Moment: After progressively worsening symptoms, a doctor's visit and blood test led to a life-altering phone call instructing him to immediately head to Stanford instead of catching a flight to Hawaii. The patient journey often begins with confusion and a sudden, traumatic pivot. Understanding the emotional weight of diagnosis day is crucial for designing compassionate trial recruitment strategies that meet patients where they are. Is recovering from a severe medical crisis really 90% mental? In this clip from The Participant’s Story, host Dave Hanaman sits down with Pete Wisowaty to explore the profound connection between a resilient mindset and physical recovery during intense medical trials and treatments. Pushing Past Limits: Drawing parallels to his athletic background, Pete explains how navigating severe health issues forces you to strive beyond what you thought you were capable of. The Power of Attitude: Pete's doctors Stanford Hospitals & Clinics reinforced that a forward-thinking, positive attitude directly helps the body respond to treatment and builds vital momentum for recovery. A Universal Struggle: Pete highlights that the mental battle to push through is a shared reality for many patients facing heavy diagnoses. Incorporating psychosocial support into clinical trial designs is not just a nice-to-have; it can directly impact patient retention and overall wellness. A patient's mental resilience is often the anchor that keeps them compliant and engaged through complex protocols. The Participant’s Story is brought to you by Curavit.
