Your card transaction looks legitimate. But where did the money come from? Crystal traced more than $1.1 billion in on-chain flows through almost 100 crypto-funded card providers, including $166.4 million from high-risk sources. And with some services now being promoted as a way to bypass geographic restrictions on Western AI platforms, the potential compliance implications are growing. So, what can banks and card issuers actually see, and where are the blind spots? Join our expert panel on October 28 as we explore the risks behind crypto-funded payment cards and what compliance teams should be watching. 📅 October 28 | 12:00 PM GMT Save your spot: https://lnkd.in/e6YaUpiS

$1.1 billion in crypto flows. $166.4 million from high-risk sources. How much of that risk can issuing banks actually see? Crypto-funded payment cards are making it easier than ever to spend digital assets through traditional payment networks. But behind what looks like an ordinary card transaction, there can be a complex chain of providers, limited KYC checks and on-chain activity that banks can't see. Crystal's research has identified around 250 crypto-funded card services, raising important questions about visibility, accountability and compliance across the payments ecosystem. Join us on October 28 as we bring together experts from Crystal, The Economist and Fintech Business Weekly to explore the risks behind crypto-funded cards and what financial institutions need to know. Our panel: 🟡 Nick Smart, Chief Intelligence Officer, Crystal Intelligence (Moderator) 🟡 Firas Hamad, MENA Research Lead, Crystal Intelligence 🟡 Corbin Duncan, The Economist 🟡 Jason Mikula, Publisher, Fintech Business Weekly We'll discuss how these cards work, their use in bypassing geographic restrictions, where compliance gaps emerge and what banks, issuers and compliance teams can do to identify potential risks. 📅 October 28 | 12:00 PM GMT | 1:00 PM CET Register here: https://lnkd.in/e6YaUpiS

New York is one of the most closely watched crypto jurisdictions in the US. But what does the risk landscape actually look like in 2026? Our latest research found $593M in crypto crime losses across the state, up 58% year on year. We also identified 48 unlicensed cash-for-crypto services operating across 1,156 New York listings, with 56% offering Monero. On September 17, we're bringing together experts from Crystal Intelligence, Bitwise, and Sumsub to dig into the findings and what they mean for compliance teams, investors, and operators. We'll explore New York's evolving crypto crime profile, the realities of BitLicense compliance, the cash-for-crypto market operating beneath the state's licensing regime, cross-border complexity, and where regulation could be heading next. 📆 September 17 ⏰ 12:00 PM ET | 9:00 AM PT | 4:00 PM UTC | 5:00 PM BST Register for your spot now: https://lnkd.in/efgTC_SE

The crypto card market is expanding fast, and the way these services operate is changing with it. In April, Crystal identified close to 100 crypto card services operating worldwide. Five months later, our research has mapped approximately 250. When funds can move from a self-custodial wallet onto a spendable card balance, knowing who the cardholder is only tells part of the story. Understanding the source of those funds and the risk sitting upstream becomes increasingly important. Our latest investigation looks at what’s driving the growth of non-custodial crypto cards, why the model is moving into mainstream payments, and what we uncovered when analyzing one newly identified service that has received approximately 355.5M USDT since December 2024. Read the full investigation to explore the findings and what they mean for crypto card monitoring. https://lnkd.in/ePyZt-NW/?utm_campaign=Boost_Post_BrandAwareness_Sep8,2026&utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=paid&utm_id=1223062103&hsa_acc=514717349&hsa_cam=1223062103&hsa_grp=889161873&hsa_ad=1531821823&hsa_net=linkedin&hsa_ver=3

Nested services are a global problem. Where the risk concentrates is a much narrower question. Across the #nested services we traced, Crystal Intelligence attribution analysis maps seven regional clusters, each with its own risk profile, dominant tokens, and host preferences. Lebanon, Iran, Russia, Nigeria, Egypt, the UAE, and Iraq all appear in the data. That footprint looks impossible to cover. The flows in our dataset tell a different story: 🟡 Iran and CIS/Russia account for around $345 million of the critical-risk volume we analysed ($239 million Iran, $106 million CIS/Russia). 🟡 Nearly all of it routes through two major exchanges, one Tier-1 and one Tier-2. 🟡 Monitoring those two venues would cover almost the entire #sanctions-relevant footprint identified in this analysis. For compliance teams, that changes the shape of the work. The exposure is global. The choke points, at least in the flows we can see, are not. Where does your nested exposure actually concentrate? Your exchange can pass every audit and still host risk it cannot see. Crystal Intelligence traced $8B flowing through a wide range of #nested services: brokers, OTC desks, and payment processors that operate through accounts at regulated exchanges. They inherit the host's compliance standing while serving customers the host never onboarded. On-chain, their transactions resolve to the host exchange's wallets. So a transfer that looks like a routine deposit from a licensed venue may have started at a no-KYC cash desk or a sanctioned platform. A few findings that should concern every VASP: 🟡 Tier-1 Global Exchange (Host A) hosts 87.4% of nested volume, far above its 30-40% share of overall trading. 🟡 SUEX moved $1.86B through regulated hosts before its #OFAC designation, a resolved historical case addressed separately in this report (see Section 5). 🟡 Exchange-level monitoring cannot separate a nested operator's flows from your direct customers. Entity-level attribution can. What is hiding in your transaction flows?
