IBD research is moving toward treatments that could do more than control inflammation—they may help change the long-term course of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Realizing that potential requires looking beyond a single snapshot of disease. By combining multiple types of biological data with long-term clinical information and patient outcomes, researchers can better understand disease pathways, identify patients who may benefit from new treatments, and evaluate whether treatment benefits last over time. Learn how the Foundation's research ecosystem, IBD Plexus, is helping advance the next generation of IBD therapies in a new article by Angela Dobes, the Foundation's Senior Vice President of IBD Plexus.

IBD drug development is expanding beyond single-target immunosuppression toward mechanisms capable of altering the long-term disease course. Proving their potential requires looking beyond cross-sectional data. Integrating high-dimensional multi-omics with longitudinal clinical and patient outcomes enables teams to validate active disease pathways, enrich trial cohorts, and demonstrate durability before entering the clinic. Read how our IBD Plexus Causal-Context framework applies multimodal data to de-risk the next generation of IBD therapeutics.
