You can run a brilliant procurement process and still get a terrible accommodation outcome. Fixed rates. Defined volumes. Clear milestones. Tight contract terms. All sensible. Until project dates move, headcounts change and the accommodation you priced is no longer available. The problem isn’t procurement. It’s applying a fixed procurement model to a moving requirement.

I’m seeing more procurement teams take control of workforce accommodation. The reason isn’t complicated: there’s meaningful hard cost sitting on the table. Centralising spend can create savings before you even consider the hours lost searching, changing bookings and fixing problems. At scale, accommodation deserves to be treated as a serious spend category.

I asked 20+ construction companies about booking accommodation... “What’s working well right now?”... The honest answer shocked me. Very little — unless they’ve already changed how they manage accommodation. Here’s where the gap is: Most options (Airbnb, Booking.com, agents) optimise for: → Choice → Price comparison → Individual users But our customers need: → Speed to shortlist (within hours, not days) → Options that actually fit crews and projects → Clear pricing and invoicing for finance → Someone accountable when things go wrong That’s the difference. Not “more properties”. But less friction between decision → booking → staying → paying. Where we consistently win is simple: ✅ We remove the operational load. So instead of: “Let me check 5 sites, message hosts, and hope it works…” It becomes: 👉 “Here are 3 options that fit. Pick one. Done.” It’s not revolutionary. But in this space, simplification is rare.

Our accommodation... “Yeah - it works (well enough)” But at what cost? Time. Consistency. Attention. All leaking quietly in the background. Nothing breaks. So nothing improves.

You’re not just booking a property. You’re responsible for people. I spoke to a Head of People last month who was gutted. One of their site workers had been put in a last-minute accommodation via an online booking platform. He didn’t feel safe, didn’t sleep, and left the project 3 days in. It wasn’t anyone’s fault—it was just rushed. But it cost the business thousands. And it left a bad taste. This is what we hear again and again. Accommodation choices affect retention, wellbeing, and team morale. But most platforms just treat them like holiday bookings. It isn't their fault - it is what they're built for. They are: ⛱️ Leisure platforms that people use for business 🏡 Full of holiday lets where your team stays 🏗️ Not built exclusively for companies At ComfyWorkers, we do it differently. We speak human. We know every booking has a project behind it—and a person inside it. That’s why we take the time to understand your policies, team setup, and pressure points. Not just what postcode you need. Because workforce accommodation isn’t just logistics. It’s leadership in mobilising the project and protecting team wellbeing. #peoplefirst #dutyofcare #workforcehousing #constructionHR
