Africa’s energy markets are increasingly cross-border, with pipelines, interconnected grids, energy products, infrastructure, capital and expertise moving across jurisdictions. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) creates an important continental framework for trade and investment, with the potential to strengthen regional energy value chains, facilitate the movement of project inputs, and support greater intra-African investment across power, renewables, oil and gas. But integration requires more than infrastructure. As CLG Associate Miracle Okoro explores, the effectiveness of the AfCFTA will depend on greater coherence between continental rules, Regional Economic Communities and national energy regulations. For businesses and investors, understanding how these three regulatory levels interact will be critical to structuring, financing and executing cross-border energy projects across Africa. The opportunity is clear: use the AfCFTA to reduce, not reproduce, the fragmentation of Africa’s energy markets. Read the full insight: https://lnkd.in/eM6P73xK
