𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 Effective symptom management remains one of the most important aspects of cancer care. Beyond improving quality of life, timely identification and management of symptoms can help reduce avoidable healthcare use and better support patients throughout their survivorship journey. A recent scoping review by Wang et al. examined 41 studies exploring the emerging role of AI in cancer symptom management among adult cancer survivors. The findings highlight a wide range of applications, from symptom detection and monitoring to clinical decision support, personalized care recommendations, patient education, and counselling. But perhaps the most interesting message lies beyond the technology itself. As the authors note, the evidence base remains heterogeneous, and many AI tools have yet to undergo robust external validation. This need for evaluation is not unique to AI. All healthcare interventions are expected to generate evidence before being implemented in clinical practice. As AI becomes more prevalent in healthcare, its performance, safety, clinical utility, and impact on outcomes must likewise be systematically assessed. Real-world evidence (RWE) has been instrumental in evaluating the performance of medical interventions in everyday clinical practice over the past decade, and it will likely be equally valuable for AI in healthcare. By complementing laboratory data on AI model performance, RWE can offer critical insights into safety, equity, clinical utility, and effectiveness across broader populations. However, AI also poses challenges that differ from those of traditional medical interventions. AI tools may evolve over time and interact with clinical workflows in complex ways. Evaluating their real-world performance may therefore require adapting established RWE approaches to account for factors such as model evolution, implementation, and ongoing performance monitoring. As AI continues to shape healthcare, we will be following developments in this field with great interest and sharing perspectives on how technology and real-world evidence can work together to improve patient care. This week, EMA’s Risk Management Information Day agenda focused largely on the new guidance on collecting and presenting data on pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it also included a short update on the planned revision of GVP Module VIII. How will ICH M14 shape the revised GVP Module VIII, and what could this mean for the way PASS are designed, assessed, and conducted in practice? I have had a wonderful summer with family and friends, started the autumn together with my colleagues at Ciencia Research, and am now looking forward to kicking off the conference season with one of my favourite conferences. For me, ISPE is a fantastic opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, and meet scientists who are just as passionate about RWD and RWE as I am. We are proud to share that our latest study on diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is now published in The European Journal of Health Economics. Using nationwide Swedish register data from 2015–2023, this study provides the first population-level estimates of healthcare resource utilization and direct specialist care costs among patients with DLBCL in Sweden. Notably, the study captured the transition from the pre-CAR T era to the introduction of CAR T-cell therapy in routine Swedish clinical practice, offering insights into healthcare utilization, costs, and outcomes during a period of significant change in DLBCL treatment. We found that healthcare use and costs were highest during the first years following diagnosis and remained relatively stable over time. These findings provide valuable context for understanding the healthcare burden of DLBCL and the evolving treatment landscape in Sweden. Congratulations to all co-authors and collaborators on this publication! ◾Download Publication: https://lnkd.in/dsExZcaV #DLBCL #Lymphoma #RealWorldEvidence #HEOR #CARTCellTherapy

We are excited to share our latest study on pregnancy outcomes among women with autoimmune diseases across Denmark, Finland, and Sweden, now published in American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Global Reports. Using data from nationwide health registries spanning more than two decades, we examined over 20,000 pregnancies complicated by Sjögren’s disease (SjD), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM), and mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). Our findings show that these pregnancies are associated with notable risks of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, including: • Preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction • Emergency caesarean section • Preterm birth and small-for-gestational-age infants • Neonatal unit admission • Autoimmune atrioventricular block among children born to mothers with SjD and SLE By quantifying specific maternal and neonatal risks across three Nordic countries, the results help highlight unmet needs and support evidence-based decision-making in this patient population. We are grateful to all co-authors and collaborators who contributed to this work. ➡️ Download our publication here: https://lnkd.in/dfpivvy9 #RealWorldEvidence #NordicData #RegistryResearch #AutoimmuneDisease #Pregnancy

As we reach the halfway point of 2026, I’ve been reflecting on what has made the first six months so rewarding at Ciencia Research. One of the things I value most about being CEO is that it has never meant stepping away from the science. Quite the opposite. Alongside leading the business, I remain closely involved in client work and scientific projects, from evidence generation and real-world studies to market access, stakeholder engagement and support for interactions with regulators, HTA agencies and payers. That closeness to the work matters. Behind every dataset and every research question are patients, healthcare professionals and important decisions that need to be made with confidence. Whether we are mapping patient journeys, identifying barriers to care or generating evidence to support innovation, our goal remains clear: to help ensure new treatments reach the patients who need them. I am also continually impressed by the Ciencia Research team. Our epidemiologists and scientific experts bring deep knowledge, curiosity, pragmatism and a real commitment to quality. They challenge each other, challenge me and keep finding ways forward when the answer is not immediately obvious. The first half of 2026 has also brought some important scientific milestones. We recently presented results from a large study in warm autoimmune hemolytic anaemia (wAIHA) at the EHA Congress. Two publications will soon follow, including one on pregnancy outcomes among women with autoimmune diseases following its presentation at EULAR, and another on healthcare resource utilisation, costs and survival in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. I am grateful to our clients and partners for trusting us with important scientific and strategic challenges. I am proud of the work our team is doing. And I am delighted that Ciencia Research was recently featured as one of Sweden’s Innovative Companies by Svenska Dagbladet. Good science does more than answer research questions. It helps shape decisions, supports innovation and improves the journey for patients. I look forward to sharing more in the months ahead.
