Can your port supply shore power to vessels? If your grid connection can't cover the full power demand on its own, a battery storage system can supply part of it. Here's how it works ⚡ 1. A vessel arrives at berth and connects to shore power 2. The battery storage system discharges power to the vessel 3. This means less power needs to be drawn from the grid 4. When the vessel departs, the battery recharges – and can take part in markets such as the reserve market Learn more about how battery storage can make shore power easier to deliver 👉 https://lnkd.in/eYhKSKjn/?utm_campaign=Baltics-ABM&utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=paid&utm_id=1210530124&hsa_acc=509690289&hsa_cam=1210530124&hsa_grp=903719784&hsa_ad=1605391064&hsa_net=linkedin&hsa_ver=3

TEN-T ports must offer shore power to container and passenger vessels by 1 January 2030. That means a sharp rise in power demand at ports. A Cactos battery storage system makes shore power possible – even when your grid connection falls short. Do you know how much your port's grid capacity fees could rise once you start offering shore power to vessels? Even if your port's grid connection can cover the extra power demand from shore power, higher peak loads can still push capacity fees up by thousands of euros a month. With a Cactos battery storage system, you can supply part of the vessel's shore power straight from the battery. Buying less power from the grid at peak times means lower capacity fees. TEN-T ports must offer shore power to container and passenger vessels by 1 January 2030. Once a vessel connects, it can draw several megawatts of power. That creates two challenges: 1. Your existing grid connection is sized for the port's baseline load, and it may not stretch to cover megawatts of shore power on top. Upgrading it means a capacity study from the grid operator, permit applications, excavation work, a new substation – and an investment that can run into the millions. 2. And even if your grid connection can handle the shore power load, grid capacity fees could multiply in the worst case. Battery storage can help with both challenges.
