One of the things I’ve always found interesting about commodities is how invisible the industry can be when it’s working well. It sits behind the energy we use, the food we eat, the materials we build with and much of the technology we rely on. Yet most of us don’t think about the complex system and supply chains behind all of this until something goes wrong. I really enjoyed discussing this paradox with Paul Chapman on the HC Group Commodities Podcast, and what it means for companies trying to explain their role and value to different audiences. We also got into crisis preparedness and leadership, M&A, the challenge of explaining commodity trading to the outside world and why communications can enable good strategy but can never substitute for it. Thanks to Paul and the HC Group team for having me. https://lnkd.in/eGCXNTsY

As Europe considers the implications of the latest disruption to global energy supply, one point stands out: the economics have changed. In much of the world, wind and solar are now cheaper than new gas. In the Brunswick Review, Wolfgang Blau speaks with Oxford energy expert Jan Rosenow about why this moment matters. The debate is shifting from energy security to competitiveness, resilience, and whether policy can move fast enough to match the direction of travel. For European leaders, that makes this a strategic moment that can either entrench old dependencies or accelerate better systems. This conversation is for anyone thinking about what Europe builds next, and what it cannot afford to delay. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e4977HWk

Over the past two decades, private equity has evolved from a niche asset class into a core part of global capital markets. In a wide-ranging conversation with Brunswick’s Mark Barnett, CD&R Co-President David Novak reflects on what comes next — from the importance of operational value creation to the role of private capital as a capital market in its own right. He also discusses what Europe’s complexity offers investors willing to do the work, and how expectations around governance and stewardship have sharpened. As Novak puts it: “In our view, you really do have to invest in making businesses better — strategically, operationally and organizationally.” Read the full interview at the link in the comments.

Europe’s next competitive edge won’t come from capital alone. It will come from talent. In conversation with Alessandro Iozzia, Dr. Stefano Caselli, Dean of SDA Bocconi, argues that education is the long-term infrastructure that helps economies adapt—especially as AI reshapes work and leadership. What’s one move leaders can make now to turn skills into sustained impact? Read the full interview at the link in the comments.

An engine of progress, built across the Atlantic. In conversation with Felix M. and Hannah Rückel, Leitmotif Co-Founder and Managing Partner Jens Wiese makes the case for a more complementary transatlantic model, pairing US innovation speed with Europe’s industrial backbone to unlock the next wave of industrial AI and hard tech transformation. From robotics and AI in manufacturing to frontier bets on batteries and fusion energy, the focus is on turning technological promise into real world impact at scale.
