What can a single drop of water reveal about your surface prep? This quick explainer discusses the Water Contact Angle, a fast, nondestructive way to assess surface quality before bonding, coating, sealing, or painting. The shape of a droplet can instantly tell you whether a surface is: Clean, reactive, and ready Or contaminated and risky At Brighton Science, we help teams verify surface quality in seconds, right on the production floor. Is your surface prep working everywhere, every time? Join our live webinar on November 5th to find out. A part can look evenly sanded, blasted, or cleaned and still vary from one spot to the next. It can also be ready to bond right after prep and not be ready by the next shift. Our team mapped water contact angle point by point across #composite and #aluminum surfaces to see where common prep methods fall short. Some results surprised us. The same grit blasting step that helped aluminum made a carbon fiber epoxy surface harder to bond. #ProcessEngineering #QualityEngineering #SurfacePreparation #AdhesiveBonding #Composites #Manufacturing

Is your surface prep actually working or just checking a box? Adhesion failures don't happen at random. More often than not, they trace back to a surface prep process that looks fine on paper but hasn't been verified in practice. Join us on Wednesday, August 26 at 1:00 PM ET for our upcoming webinar, "The Real Value of Surface Prep." We'll dig into why measuring and validating surface prep, not just performing it, is what actually protects your parts, your process, and your bottom line. You'll walk away understanding: - Why "it's always been done this way" is costing manufacturers more than they realize - How to move from guesswork to data-driven surface prep decisions - What surface intelligence looks like in practice, on the line Whether you're in aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or any industry where adhesion failure isn't an option, this session is for you. #SurfaceIntelligence #ManufacturingExcellence #Aerospace #Adhesion #BrightonScience

Additives are a necessary component of modern polymer formulations. By design, they are supposed to mobilize and serve specific functions. For surface critical processes involving adhesion, teams should to be aware that this can create low energy surfaces. The ability to measure this occurrence, often called additive blooming, is one of the single most important steps you can do to prevent adhesion failure. A few things worth knowing: → Corona treatment raises surface energy but doesn't stop blooming → Dyne inks usually aren't sensitive enough to catch it early → Contact angle measurement can flag it before it turns into a failure → The longer the gap between treatment and bonding, the more it costs you The fix isn't guessing at treatment settings. It's measuring surface quality directly, at incoming material, after treatment, and again before bonding, so you catch the drift before it becomes a failure. Blooming isn't a formulation defect; it's predictable polymer physics. Once you can measure it, you can manage it. Quality failures are costly, but they rarely start where they’re discovered. Our e-book, The High Cost of Poor Quality, explores how manufacturers can reduce scrap, rework, delays, warranty claims, and surface-related failures by improving process control before issues reach production. Learn how Surface Intelligence helps teams connect surface readiness to yield, throughput, and long-term quality performance.
