94% completion. Zero behavior change. That's not a training win. That's a blind spot. A client showed me their L&D dashboard last month. 94% completion rate, 4.6 out of 5 satisfaction. By every metric on that slide, the training had worked. Three months later, the actual behavior on the floor hadn't moved at all. To be honest, this isn't rare, it's the norm. Decades of research keep landing on the same number: only 10-20% of what's taught in formal training actually transfers into on-the-job behavior. Manager-required compliance training routinely hits 90%+ completion and still produces no real change, because completion measures whether someone clicked through a module, not whether they do anything differently under pressure. Leadership knows this, sort of, and still optimizes for the wrong signal. A 2026 Gartner survey of security leaders found 84% of organizations prioritize training completion as their top metric, while only 6% track the thing that actually predicts risk: how often people bypass the training the moment it's inconvenient. We keep grading the easy test and then act surprised when the real-world score doesn't match. The thing is, completion rate was never a business outcome. It's a proxy that's easy to drop into a slide. Behavior change, time-to-competency, fewer repeat errors, fewer workarounds under deadline pressure - that's the real test, and it's harder to measure, so most companies quietly stop looking. If your training dashboard leads with completion, you're not measuring whether the training worked. You're measuring whether the LMS can export a report. What do you think - does your org measure behavior or just attendance? #LearningAndDevelopment #FrontlineWorkforce #TrainingROI

Q4 is when every retail plan meets reality. I've spent the last few weeks on calls with retail and hospitality customers, and the question I ask everyone right now is simple: what actually has to go right between now and January? One answer keeps coming up and for me it wasn't a surprise: AI for frontline employees. Not AI for forecasting or pricing. Most of them already have that. They want AI that helps the people in their stores. Hundreds of seasonal hires who need to be productive in days, not weeks. Promotions that change every week. New product sets landing faster than anyone can walk the floor to explain them. At Shoptalk Fall in Nashville, Jillian Cueff, Chief Merchandising Officer at Claire's, summed up her team's approach to AI in one line: "It's okay to use it, it's not okay to let it use you." The Children's Place shared a story that shows what she means. Their AI agents recommended adding more graphic tee styles. Their merchants went the other way, with fewer styles, to protect price and margin. That's a good decision. But it shows the gap my customers are describing. AI is helping headquarters make better decisions, faster. Then those decisions hit a store where a brand-new seasonal hire has no idea why that tee isn't on sale. If AI only works at headquarters, the decision doesn't survive the weekend. That's what we're focused on with our customers at Bites this Q4: using AI to turn every change into a short video on every associate's phone before their next shift, so the people executing the decision understand it as well as the people who made it. Is AI reaching your frontline yet, or is it still stuck at headquarters? I'd genuinely like to hear. #Retail #FrontlineEnablement #AI #Q4

New York, let’s have dinner. 🍝 On Tuesday, November 10, we’re bringing the Bites Roadshow to NYC for an evening at Trattoria Dell’Arte’s Candle Room, right across from Carnegie Hall. The idea is simple: one long table and a room full of executives from leading companies who care about how frontline teams learn, grow, and perform. No slides. No pitch decks. Just real conversation about what’s working, what isn’t, and the pain points we’re all trying to solve. Some of the best ideas I’ve heard came from exactly these kinds of evenings, from people sharing notes from the trenches over a good meal. We kept it small on purpose, and only a few seats are still open. If you lead operations, L&D, HR, or frontline teams and want to join us, grab your seat at the 1st comment >>> And if someone in your network belongs at this table, tag them below👇 #FrontlineWorkforce #Leadership #NYC #FrontlineLearning #Bites
