Cracking macadamias from their hard shell is a childhood memory for lots of Aussie consumers, especially those from northern NSW and QLD. If you were lucky enough to grow up with a macadamia tree in your backyard, you probably remember trying to crack the nuts open with a brick or a hammer! We created this video to show consumers 3 (easier!) ways to get that delicious kernel out of the shell to inspire some delicious family fun. #macadamias #macadamianuts #ausmacadamias #AustralianMacadamias #macadamia Ben Baldwin Laura Davies

There's something mesmerising about watching Australian macadamias being processed. From harvest, mature nuts are transported to processing facilities where they're carefully dried in-shell before being cracked and the creamy kernel gently separated. Australian macadamias are produced to some of the highest food safety and quality standards in the world, supported by rigorous processing systems, strong supply chain protocols and decades of export experience. Every part of the crop has value, including the macadamia shells, which are put to productive use after processing, for example as a renewable fuel source for electricity generation, or to create biochar, a natural high-carbon soil enhancer. Behind every kernel is an industry focused on producing premium macadamias with uncompromising standards for quality and food safety. #macadamias #macadamianuts #ausmacadamias #AustralianMacadamias, Laura Davies, Ben Baldwin

From the NSW Mid North Coast right up to Queensland’s Atherton Tablelands, harvest is one of the busiest times of the year for Australia’s 800+ hardworking macadamia growers. The macadamia growing season can be broken down into three main periods: >> August – September: Flowering begins >> October – January: Nuts begin to form in clusters, their shells harden, and oil rapidly accumulates >> February – August: Mature nuts fall to the ground and are harvested with purpose-built harvesting machinery Once harvested, the nuts are then transported to processing facilities where they’re de-husked, cracked, sorted and packed, with the husks returned to orchard systems as compost. It’s a busy annual cycle supported by the skill, experience and commitment of growers across Australia’s macadamia-growing regions. We love the way Australian macadamias were brought to life in this recent activation in Mumbai. Led by Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) in collaboration with Handful of Health, the “Queensland Macadamia Soft Serve: A Summer Special” pop-up at Food Square India, Bandra showcased macadamias in a format that is both accessible and indulgent for local consumers. At the centre of the activation was a layered soft serve dessert featuring a naturally sweet date-based ice cream swirled with creamy macadamia butter and finished with salted caramelised macadamia brittle. As the video shows, it’s a combination that clearly resonated with consumers, highlighting the nut’s rich flavour, smooth texture and ability to add contrast and depth across multiple elements of a dish or product. A strong example of how targeted in-market activity can introduce more consumers to the taste and texture of Australian macadamias - our thanks and congratulations to all involved.
