You have never worked on a project where the previous step was actually finished. Not once. Be honest. The schedule says process, then piping, then E&I. Tidy boxes, arrows in between. Then equipment data lands three weeks late, vendor drawings later still.. and somebody starts anyway because the end date never moves.. Under my last post two people told me the exact opposite thing and both were right. One said; "process always comes first", "you calculate it on the P&ID and the rest follows". The other said; "piping is half built before the P&ID has even gone out for design". Guess they are both true. Just depends where you're standing. Which is the bit worth sitting with. Every gate, every handover and every workflow diagram is built on an order that almost nobody has ever worked in. So the real question isn't how to make people follow the sequence. It's how four disciplines work on something that's still moving, without three of them building on a version that stopped being true two weeks ago. #EngineeringBase #AUCOTEC #Wasserwirtschaft #Abwasser #Wastewater #DigitalerZwilling #DigitalTwin #AssetManagement #Anlagenbau #Lifecycle #Engineering #Digitalisierung #Infrastruktur #Kommunalwirtschaft #Utilities #Wasserversorgung #Kläranlagen

The energy transition is also an engineering challenge. 🌱 Solar plants, wind farms, hydropower and hydrogen technologies need to be engineered efficiently – while projects are becoming larger and skilled resources remain limited. One important lever: modular engineering. Reusable modules can help engineering teams standardize recurring elements, reduce repetitive work and manage complex projects more efficiently. Engineering Base supports this approach with a consistent data foundation – from renewable generation to electrolyzers and HVDC projects. 👉 Learn more about engineering for Green Energy: https://lnkd.in/d3gYBPw2

Digital grids need digital engineering. ⚡ As energy generation becomes more decentralized, intelligent and interoperable grids are essential. With Engineering Base, IEC 61850 is fully integrated into one collaborative engineering platform – connecting disciplines, data and hardware in a consistent model. The result: standardized workflows, greater interoperability and a reliable data foundation for automation and AI. The digital DNA of a substation starts with consistent data. In a recent article, 50,2 explores how Engineering Base supports digital substation engineering – from IEC 61850 integration to a consistent digital twin across disciplines and lifecycle phases. Our colleague Michaela Imbusch shares insights into how this approach helps reduce media breaks and manage increasing engineering complexity. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eCkZ9Yzp

Water & Wastewater — Part 2: "The next wave is already here" In our last post, we looked at the 2027 deadline for Europe's water bodies. But a second wave is coming — and it lands directly on treatment plants. The recast Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (EU) 2024/3019 is now in force. It requires: → Quaternary treatment for micropollutants at large plants, with first targets already in 2033 → Energy audits of plants and collecting systems every four years → A path toward energy neutrality for the sector Most of this won't be built from scratch. It will be retrofitted onto existing plants, many documented decades ago in PDFs, images and other unstructured files. That's where retrofits slow down: before adding anything new, someone has to rebuild what's already there. This is why we developed AI Diagram Import (AIDI). It recognizes objects in legacy P&IDs, single line diagrams and circuit diagrams and turns them into intelligent objects in Engineering Base, with engineers validating the results. AIDI makes the difference at the start. The real value comes after: once your plant knowledge and working methods live in Engineering Base, proven process solutions become reusable standards, and every new project starts from what already works, not from a blank page. A retrofit is only as fast as the engineering data it starts from. How much of your plant knowledge is still locked in PDFs, images and unstructured files? 👇 Discover how AIDI turns legacy diagrams into usable engineering data: link in the first comment. #Wastewater #UWWTD #WaterUtilities #BrownfieldEngineering #AIinEngineering #EngineeringData #DigitalTransformation #EngineeringBase
