Reliable power shouldn't depend on where you are. Across APRIL's operations, we're working to manage energy consumption efficiently while increasing the use of renewable and cleaner energy, from our mills to remote fibre estates across Sumatra. In 2025, renewable and cleaner energy accounted for 38% of energy consumed across our Sumatra fibre operations, more than double the share in 2023. This progress was supported by the transition from B30 to B40 biodiesel and the expansion of solar power across our fibre estate offices, where capacity grew from 0 MWp in 2023 to 2 MWp in 2025 following the installation of six solar systems. At selected remote offices and satellite nurseries, these solar systems are paired with battery energy storage systems (BESS). Like a large-scale power bank, BESS stores solar energy during the day and releases it when needed, helping reduce reliance on diesel generators while supporting reliable power in remote locations. We aim to expand solar power to 32 estate locations by 2030 and increase the share of renewable and cleaner energy across our Sumatra fibre operations to 50%.These efforts are part of our broader APRIL2030 Climate Positive commitment to manage energy consumption and transition towards a more sustainable energy mix across our operations.

APRIL Group continued to deliver progress towards its APRIL2030 sustainability commitments and targets in 2025, driving gains across climate action, renewable energy adoption, conservation investment, circular economy initiatives, and community development. APRIL’s Sustainability Report 2025, themed “Strengthening Impact,” marks a milestone year as the company reaches the midpoint of our APRIL2030 journey. The report reflects a year of recalibration, focused on refining how we deliver our commitments to drive measurable results as the business continues to grow and diversify. Key achievements in 2025 include: 🌍 Reduced land-use emissions by nearly 40% to 3.0 million tonnes CO₂e since 2019 baseline at Sumatra operations, advancing the pathway toward net-zero land-use emissions by 2030. ☀️ Increased renewable and clean energy to 82% of manufacturing energy demand, and expanded installed solar capacity to 39.4 MWp, surpassing earlier targets. 🌿 Invested US$14.8 million in conservation, supporting protection and restoration landscapes equivalent to 76 percent of its plantation footprint. Improved plantation productivity by 13.8% at the Sumatra operations, effectively boosting fibre output without expanding its plantation footprint. 📊 Contributed to stunting reduction efforts among children in 114 villages, bringing rates to below 14% in Riau Province. 👩💼 Women accounted for 63% of participants in APRIL’s community programs, reflecting strong progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The year also marked several important milestones for our nature and biodiversity agenda, including the launch of APRIL’s Thriving Nature strategy, a five-year scientific collaboration with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to strengthen evidence-based conservation across our landscape, and the adoption of the TNFD framework to strengthen nature-related risk and opportunity reporting. As sustainability reporting continues to evolve globally, our approach to helping deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is rooted in our Sustainable Forest Management Policy (SFMP) 2.0. When the SDGs were introduced, we integrated the Goals into our existing operations, ensuring they continue to be a key driver in APRIL’s goal-setting and disclosures. Since the launch of our SFMP 2.0 in ten years ago, the SDGs have shaped our APRIL2030 commitments, aligning our business objectives with both global and national development priorities. In a recent WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development Reporting Matters 2025 webinar, Craig Tribolet, Director of Sustainability and External Affairs, APRIL Group, shared how detailed analysis and mapping helped us identify where our operations could have the greatest impact. This enabled us to fully integrate the SDGs across our reporting and performance measurement, strengthening our alignment with Indonesia’s development agenda, while keeping our reporting focused, relevant, and transparent. As new frameworks emerge, we continue to view the SDGs as an enduring reference point for consistency and alignment, said Craig. “We’re looking to refocus our reporting on what really matters, and the SDGs serve as a key touchpoint for assessing alignment and ensuring consistency”. APRIL Group has successfully piloted a community-focused survey across five villages in Riau province, Indonesia, to gather direct input for the baseline assessment being carried out as part of Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) Remedy Framework. The initiative, conducted in September 2025, was done to help communities identify past social and environmental harms and to support the independent assessors. By engaging local 'community champions' to facilitate participation, the survey exceeded its target, securing over 1,000 responses from local residents.
