ASTM E595 and ECSS-Q-ST-70-02C are the two major testing standards used to measure how materials outgas in a high-vacuum space environment. According to NASA, “gases can resettle, coating nearby surfaces with a film, potentially obstructing sensors, cameras, and other optical equipment.” NASA’s official low outgas standard is ASTM E595 for Non-Metallic Materials. Appli-Tec tests all its aerospace adhesive materials to this standard. The test method used by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is very similar to the method developed by the European Cooperation for Space Standardization, ECSS-ST-70-02C, which is used by the European Space Agency (ESA). Due to this close similarity, Appli-Tec materials listed as meeting ASTM E595 should also be compliant to the ESA standard. If you’re in Europe, and wondering if Appli-Tec ships to your location, the answer is Yes! We ship temperature- and light-sensitive adhesive materials all over the world. When you contact Appli-Tec, a Technical Specialist will work with you to determine the best formulation for your application -- while taking into account your shipping location. If you’re ordering a pre-mixed and frozen material, we’ll confirm ship dates with you to ensure the frozen syringes won’t be left on your loading dock due to a local holiday, you being out of office, or a late Friday afternoon delivery. Learn more about how we ship to you: https://lnkd.in/gxkRMqqu This personal attention-to-detail is why aerospace, defense, and industrial engineers from around the world rely on Appli-Tec for defect-free adhesives — every time. #industrialadhesives

It's International Adhesives and Sealants Day, where we celebrate how adhesives and sealants bond our worlds together -- on earth and in space. Appli-Tec high-performance adhesives are used daily in the aerospace industry, including satellite, telescope, and communications applications. Thank you to the countless men and women who work to make great visions and dreams possible. Image: Astronaut Franklin R. Of the many adhesive materials we mix and package, epoxy, polyurethane, and silicone adhesives are the three most requested chemistries. The choice of which chemistry to use is based on the application requirements – for example: ✔️ Thermal conductivity ✔️ Electrically insulating, ✔️ Low or high Tg ✔️ Chemically resistant etc. In this informative Tech Tip, we list the three chemistries and their pros and cons in easy-to-read charts. https://lnkd.in/geRp-MnC Pictured: Which adhesive chemistry to use is based on your application requirements.

Customers who are considering adding our Pre-Mixed and Frozen Adhesives to their process bump up against one main challenge: the purchase of an ultra-low temperature freezer. Purchasing a piece of equipment can be tough to justify if you're not sure that outsourcing your adhesive mixing will save you time and money (it will). To allow you to "try before you buy," we offer our Freezer Rental Program. Yes -- that's correct! You can lease a 1-cubic foot ultra-low temp freezer month-to-month. The freezer plugs into any standard U.S. electrical outlet and maintains a temperature as low as -70°C. Major plus: It fits nicely in tight workspaces. 🙌 We'll either deliver it to you if you're within driving distance or ship it by crate. What's the difference between adhesive work life and pot life? Often used interchangeably, these properties can vary greatly depending on the adhesive material, its packaging (e.g. frozen or two-part kit), and the application. ✔️ Pot life refers to the amount of time required for a material to reach double its initial viscosity. Timing for pot life begins when the frozen material reaches approximately 18°C or ambient conditions. ✔️ Work life refers to the amount of time a thawed material retains the correct viscosity for it to be properly applied to a part or substrate. ✔️ Work life can be shorter or longer than the pot life and is application-specific. For example, if an application can tolerate a viscosity higher than double the initial viscosity, then the work life for the adhesive for that application will be longer than the pot life -- as illustrated in the image.
