Save the date for our next webinar! On December 7, Kirsi Pietilainen (Professor of Clinical Metabolism at the University of Helsinki) and Lars Johansson (CSO at Antaros Medical), will be discussing how adipose tissue expansion, distribution and dysfunction affect overall metabolic health, individual tissue function and a range of related conditions. Previously thought of as a passive energy store, adipose tissue is now recognized as a dynamic, metabolically active endocrine organ. Reduction in adipose tissue volume is a key goal in weight loss clinical trials. But in what ways, beyond simply volume, does adipose tissue change during weight loss? In our latest blog post, Lars Johansson (CSO), Nicolas Geades (Director MR Imaging), & Henrik Haraldsson (Senior Director MR Imaging) discuss how adipose tissue composition can change with weight loss, and the implications this could have for future clinical trials.

Differences in body composition results between trials can be due to more than just treatment effects. As more and more body composition data is reported in clinical trials, how can we make sure we interpret it correctly? In our latest blog post, our CSO, Lars Johansson discusses how things like measurement methodology, patient characteristics, and trial duration can impact body composition data, and the importance of considering them when interpreting results.

Changes in body composition, especially those related to muscle, have become increasingly important for accurately interpreting treatment effects during weight loss in clinical trials. Instead of simply asking ‘𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘵?’, the question has evolved and deepened to become ‘𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯?’. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide a detailed and comprehensive assessment of body and muscle composition through quantifying adipose tissue (SAT/VAT), adipose tissue-free and skeletal muscle volumes from whole-body images. MRI can also measure changes in muscle composition, which can influence metabolic health, physical function, and the overall quality of weight reduction. Hear more about muscle from Lars Johansson (Chief Scientific Officer at Antaros Medical), Niels Jessen (Head of Research at Steno Diabetes Center, Aarhus) and Tim Heise (Chief Scientific Officer at Profil) in our latest webinar, 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘴: 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, here: https://lnkd.in/d4MfdTq6

Iina Laitinen, Senior Director PET Imaging at Antaros Medical, will present at the 4th Obesity & Weight Loss Summit later this week. Her talk will cover how imaging can be used to assess not only body and muscle composition, but also how advanced imaging techniques can provide insights into end organ effects and other downstream conditions.
