Every day at Eagle Mine’s Humboldt Mill is a balancing act of throughput, grade, recovery, and above all, safety. When evaluating new technology, the bar is high. Bench scale results must translate to continuous performance. Safety reviews must be thorough. Integration must be seamless. Eagle Mine’s Mill Operations Manager, Hugo Staton, shares insight into key parameters of running a nickel mill, operational considerations when evaluating new technologies, if proven at scale, how D-Solve can expand the “toolbox” available to processing teams. We appreciate the rigor Eagle Mine brings to this evaluation and the opportunity to prove D-Solve’s performance under real conditions.

A common question we are asked about D-Solve is: are microbes entering the plant? The answer: they are not. D-Solve uses fermentation to produce our Allonnia Biosolution and the microorganisms remain in the fermenter. What arrives at site behaves like a conventional reagent. Two years ago, we set out to prove that this approach could scale to mineral processing volumes. Today, we are running continuous pilot operations and screening multiple ore types across commodities. We are evaluating additional pilot locations for the next phase of deployment. If you have a goal to increase production in the face of processing bottlenecks at your site, we welcome a technical discussion. 🎤 Kent S.

On paper, dissolving unwanted minerals sounds simple. In practice, it is not. Traditional acids dissolve everything, including the metal you are trying to protect. The real challenge is selectivity. Kent S., Allonnia CTO, walks through why mineralogy makes this difficult and why biology offers a different path. Microorganisms have evolved to extract specific trace elements from rock and Allonnia’s D-Solve harnesses those metabolites to target elements like magnesium while preserving nickel. It is a different way of thinking about separation. For operators managing magnesium, arsenic, fluorine, or other penalty elements, selective removal may change what is possible downstream.

There is a structural challenge facing the mining industry. Ore grades are declining, penalty elements are increasing, and opening new mines takes time that supply chains may not have. The question becomes: how do we extract more value from what is already operating? In this clip, our CTO Kent Sorenson explains how selective impurity removal can help upgrade concentrate, reduce penalties, and extend the productive life of existing assets. Our solution is not about replacing flotation, it is about strengthening what happens in combination with flotation. If you’d like to learn more about how impurity removal can be a lever for improving your processing economics and site’s sustainability, we welcome a technical discussion.

For decades, mineral processing has relied on mechanical and chemical separations. That foundation is not going away. But what if there is another tool the industry has not fully explored? In this conversation, our CEO Nicole R. shares why biology opens a new pathway. D-Solve selectively dissolves unwanted gangue materials while leaving the value metal untouched. That level of selectivity is difficult to achieve with conventional chemistry. What makes this moment different is not just the science. It is the industry readiness. We are seeing operators who are willing to engage with new technology when they see disciplined validation behind it. The mining industry does not need disruption for its own sake, it needs performance that fits into operational reality. If improving concentrate quality without building new infrastructure is part of your roadmap, we would welcome a technical discussion.

Two years ago, D-Solve existed in lab glassware. Today, it sits inside a nickel-processing mill. Our partners at Exergy Solutions took this fun timelapse showing the fabrication and assembly of our first D-Solve mobile pilot unit. Pumps, tanks and steel – equipment built to run continuously inside a concentrator, not inside a lab. Growing from milligram experiments to processing tons per day required more than chemistry. It required engineering discipline, operational input, and the willingness to build something real. This is the first step to scaling up. If your operation is evaluating impurity constraints and looking for solutions that integrate into existing flowsheets, we are actively discussing pilot opportunities for 2026.
