In Mongolia, moving sand and harsher winters are drying up springs and wiping out pastures, putting herders’ livelihoods at risk. Local savings and credit cooperatives are fighting back with their members’ own money. Part of their profits goes into environmental funds that have: - Restored desertified land. Vegetation recovered by about 50% in just three months. - Protected springs that now water around 6,000 livestock - Helped herders save for tough winters instead of taking on loans With support from Financial Regulatory Commission of Mongolia, this is inclusive green finance in practice: community savings building climate resilience. The Port Moresby Compact sets out how AFI members will take solutions like these to scale. “Climate change is happening right now.” Johanna Nyman, AFI’s Head of Inclusive Green Finance, says climate change is already shaking financial stability, and it hits those who are already vulnerable the hardest. Many AFI members are developing and implementing inclusive green finance policies. Johanna says the remaining gap is making sure those policies flow through financial institutions and reach the people who need them. That’s why AFI members approved the Port Moresby Compact on Inclusive Green Finance. In Johanna’s words, it tells us “not only where we want to go with inclusive green finance, but what we need to do in the coming years” to get financial services to those most vulnerable to climate change. 📖 Read “Why the Port Moresby Compact matters now more than ever”: https://lnkd.in/dXRe8cfx #InclusiveGreenFinance #afiGPF #LeaveNoOneBehind #ClimateAction
