📚 Agriculture MDPI Volume 16, Issue 16 (August-2 2026) is now available — 110 open-access articles across the journal's scope. 📰 The cover story investigates why recalcitrant woody species are hard to propagate vegetatively and why chestnut loses rooting ability during maturation. Using RNA-seq and co-expression network analysis of juvenile-like and mature microshoots, it identifies rooting-related modules and putative regulators: bZIP/bHLH in juvenile-like and WRKY/SBP in mature microshoots. 📖 Browse the full issue: https://lnkd.in/eqHhwD6M #Agriculture #OpenAccess #PrecisionAgriculture #CropGenetic #SoilScience #MDPI

🎉 15 Years of Agriculture MDPI – An Interview with Our Editor‑in‑Chief, Prof. Dr. Les Copeland 🌾 To celebrate our 15th anniversary, we invited Prof. Copeland – agricultural chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW, and Member of the Order of Australia – to share his reflections on the journal’s past, present, and future. 📈 Reflecting on the journal’s evolution, he recalls how Agriculture grew from a modest quarterly into a Q1‑ranked, bi‑monthly journal with 14 dedicated Sections. For him, the most gratifying aspect has been witnessing this progression while maintaining a rigorous yet author‑friendly publishing experience. 🔭 Looking ahead, Prof. Copeland sees digital transformation, precision farming, and AI reshaping agriculture – yet climate change, water stress, biosecurity, and social licence pressures are intensifying. Food security will remain central, but with growing emphasis on nutrition, quality, and equitable access, alongside smallholder agriculture and value‑chain optimization. 🤝 15 years on, our journey continues. We’re deeply grateful to Prof. Copeland for his leadership, and to all our authors, reviewers, and readers who make this community possible. 📖 Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/g8gpZ_uk #Agriculture #MDPI #OpenAccess #AcademicPublishing

🎉 We are delighted to announce that Prof. Dr. PETR Smykal has been appointed as the new Section Editor-in-Chief of the “Seed Science and Technology” Section in Agriculture MDPI (ISSN 2077-0472). 🔬 Prof. Smýkal is a full professor in the Department of Botany at Palacký University Olomouc, Czechia. With a background in plant biotechnology and genetic resources, his research focuses on crop domestication, genetic diversity, and the biological basis of key traits in legumes – particularly seed dormancy, germination, and pod dehiscence. By integrating anatomy, physiology, transcriptomics, and metabolomics, his team has uncovered important roles of the phenylpropanoid pathway and polyphenol oxidase in seed‑coat and hilum impregnation. 🌍 He views seeds as “life capsules” that preserve and disperse biodiversity across time and space. Facing climate change, he emphasises the critical importance of crop wild relatives and landraces as reservoirs of genetic variation for breeding more resilient varieties. His work combines genomics, geoinformatics, and phenotyping to understand how environmental cues regulate dormancy release and germination under stress conditions. 🚀 Looking ahead, Prof. Smýkal highlights emerging technologies such as single‑seed phenotyping, multi‑omics, seed microbiome research, and smart seed treatments as game‑changers for sustainable agriculture. His goal for the Section is to build an international, interdisciplinary platform that bridges fundamental seed biology with practical applications in breeding, conservation, and seed technology. 📢 He warmly invites researchers to submit high‑quality, innovative work – from molecular mechanisms to field‑relevant studies – especially on diverse crops, wild relatives, and underutilised species. The Section promises a rigorous, constructive, and timely review process. ✨ We wish Prof. Smýkal every success in his new role – we are confident the Section will flourish under his leadership! 🔗 Read the full announcement and Q&A here: https://lnkd.in/gvStd4ca #Agriculture #SeedScience #PlantScience #MDPI #Innovation
