Meet Nurse Betty, a long-time Acorn donor with a big heart for her community. Through the Acorn Foundation NZ, she has chosen Waipuna Hospice and Blind Low Vision NZ as the charities she would like her giving to support for generations to come. In this video, Betty reflects on her life long career in nursing, her community, the causes closest to her heart, and why giving means so much more than money. This Wills Month, Betty’s story is a great reminder that leaving a gift in your will is a meaningful way to continue supporting causes you care about. With Acorn Foundation, you can name specific charities, support an area of interest or allow your gift to respond to the community’s greatest needs. If you’re considering leaving a gift in your will, we’d be happy to talk with you about how it can reflect what matters most to you.

Behind every Acorn distribution is a story. For Theresa Tingey, it began after her son Josh tragically passed away in 2018. Donations from Josh’s Otago University surveying class helped establish an Acorn fund in his memory, which has now grown to more than $120,000. The fund provides distributions each year to support young people in our community, ensuring Josh’s legacy continues to make a real difference here in the Western Bay of Plenty. For some business owners, charitable giving is simply part of good end-of-financial-year planning. If you’re making a donation before 31 March, eligible gifts can allow you to claim back one-third of what you give as a tax credit (up to the amount of income tax paid). It’s a practical way to support the community while being thoughtful about your EOFY decisions. When you give through Acorn, that support strengthens the people, services and organisations that businesses across the Western Bay rely on every day. If you’re reviewing your options, it might be worth seeing whether charitable giving could make sense for your business this year.

A good season can give you a bit of breathing room. It’s often when you think about where things are at, and sometimes, how some of that success might flow back into the region that supports you. If you’re considering giving before 31 March, eligible charitable donations can receive a 33.33% tax credit. It’s a practical way to support local charities while making a thoughtful end-of-financial-year decision. At Acorn, we help keep that giving local, investing it so it continues supporting the Western Bay of Plenty. If you’d like to explore EOFY giving options for your agri-business, we’re always happy to have a chat.

EOFY is often about helping clients make smart, well-timed decisions, ones that reflect both their financial position and what matters to them personally. Charitable giving before 31 March can be part of that conversation. Eligible donations may allow clients to claim a 33.33% tax credit, while also backing local organisations across the Western Bay. At Acorn, we aim to make that process straightforward. Our structure is IRD compliant, documentation is clear, and the options are flexible enough to sit naturally alongside year-end planning. If you’d like to explore how charitable giving could support positive outcomes for your clients, we’re always happy to have a conversation.
