Africa is shifting gears, and the future of trade is at the centre. What does the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) really mean for businesses, investors, and the banking industry? In this episode of Africa Trade Unlocked, our very own Irene Mutyaba kabiri, Director for Corporate Banking, joins economist and strategist Francois Fouché from the GIBS Centre for African Management and Markets. Together, they unpack how banks like Absa Group are enabling cross-border trade, supporting infrastructure financing, and positioning African businesses to thrive in a borderless economy. Still thinking about the weekend that was… and if you missed it, this is your sign to never miss again! The Absa KH3 Kampala–Jinja Relay 2025 was more than just a run, it was 88 kilometers of pure adrenaline, breathtaking scenery, team spirit, and a powerful purpose. From Kira’s winding trails through Kayunga’s hills, Lugazi’s sugarcane plains, the lush Mabira forest, and into the heart of Jinja, our 400+ runners pushed limits and made memories. Our two fearless Absa teams ran through the day, and into the night with the final teams arriving in Jinja just after 8pm, cheered in by headlights, headlamps, and high-fives. But the journey didn’t end at the finish line. On Day 2, we took that same energy to Masese, where Moses Rutahigwa, our Retail & Business Banking Director, led a heartfelt handover of a 10,000-litre water tank to improve hygiene for over 200 girls at the Macedonian Vocational Institute, a haven for ghetto youth and teen mothers. He also trees worth UGX 1 million with medicinal, fruit, and shade trees to green the school and its community. This was a weekend of fun, friendship, and force for good. A story of grit, giving, and growth. Watch the video to relive the moments, and to understand why you cannot miss next year’s edition. David A.
