𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: a skill that truly stands out on your resume 📑 Has this ever happened to you? You run a search (on Google or in a social listening tool) and get thousands of results… most of them completely useless. The problem usually isn’t a lack of data but it’s relevance. You need to know how to ask for it properly. Mastering 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 (like AND, OR, or AND NOT) is exactly that: learning how to ask the right questions to your data. And in a world where information is abundant but precision is rare, this skill makes a real difference—in research, in marketing, and yes, on your resume. 🎯 Here are a few examples of how operators can help in #marketing: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 📌 Using NEAR or WITHIN lets you search for terms that appear close to each other (within X words). This is useful for finding customer comments alongside a product name, or identifying articles where two key concepts appear in the same paragraph. In short: more context, less noise. 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 ❓ Wildcards like * or ? capture spelling variations and forms you might not have considered. Searching “market*” returns “marketing,” “marketplace,” “marketer,” and more—ensuring no valuable mention slips through the cracks. 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 ⛔ AND NOT is your quality filter. If you’re researching a topic but want to focus on audiences with purchase intent, you can exclude “free” to zero in on what actually matters. Fewer results—but the right ones. These are just a few techniques to help you navigate large volumes of data, cut through the noise, and uncover insights that drive better decisions. Knowing 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘆 means getting to insights faster, making better decisions, and demonstrating a level of analytical rigor that very few marketing professionals truly have. In social listening tools like YouScan Social Listening ✨, the difference between a well-built query and a mediocre one can mean discovering a real trend—or getting lost in the noise. 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 is one of those skills you won’t see on every profile—but those who master it see the impact clearly in their results. And it can make a real difference on your resume when you’re looking for your next opportunity. 🚀 ● Do you use booleans to build your queries? ● What challenges do you face with the tools you use? ● Want to share a query you’re particularly proud of?

I can’t stop thinking about how incomplete social listening becomes when we measure culture through hashtags alone. Because people don’t talk in just one format anymore. They post in images, videos, voiceovers, screenshots, and visuals that never make it into a caption. And that means if we rely only on hashtag analysis, we’re looking at a fraction of the real conversation. That’s why a comprehensive approach to social listening matters so much. The one that captures textual mentions, visual content, video, audio, and signals across a wider range of sources. And the recent example of Ogilvy reflects it perfectly. 🌟 They were asked to validate whether tinned fish was truly becoming a cultural trend online. What started with hashtag view counts led to a much bigger question: is that really the whole conversation? With YouScan, the team looked beyond hashtags and explored the topic from a broader angle, including text, visuals, video, audio, and cross-source signals. And that changed the picture entirely: a “niche signal” turned out to be a much bigger cultural conversation. What stands out to me most is this: The hero wasn’t just “more data”. It was the ability to capture mentions that usually get missed. Because today, relevance often lives far beyond captions. For brands trying to understand whether something is truly gaining momentum, that shift matters a lot. Sometimes the question is not “Is this trend real?” But “Are we looking widely enough to see it properly?” That’s where comprehensive social listening becomes a real advantage.
