Wondered why there are road cones on the Taylor River bridge at the moment? Work started in early November to replace the water main pipe running across the SH1 Taylor River bridge. This involves lifting the existing footpath panels, removing the old pipe, and installing a new water main with upgraded connections at both ends. WSP is proud to support Marlborough District Council with design, contract management, surveillance, and quality assurance for this important infrastructure upgrade. 👏 Kudos to my colleague Mathilda Montegrai for going above and beyond—taking time out of evenings to keep this work completed! #WSPinMarlborough

“Engineering After Hours – Safety First on State Highways” Last night, Nick Williams and Manesha Pieris CEng MICE were out on the roads during the Welds Pass night closure, carrying out State Highway structure inspections—checking bridges and retaining structures to keep our network safe and resilient. We really do live in a beautiful place! #WSPinMarlborough

Today was all about showcasing the incredible career opportunities in Engineering. With the help of Sam Morriss from the Marlborough WSP office, we highlighted the fantastic prospects of working in a regional WSP office, as well as the opportunities within WSP NZ and internationally. It made me reflect on the essence of engineering and the impactful work we do. Excited for the future! #WSPinMarlborough

Progress in Blenheim! Today marked a special milestone as ground was officially broken for the new Alfred Hotel. It’s not every day you see the developer on the digger, but Chris Thornley was in fine form, clearing soil to make way for Archaeologist Kirsty Sykes to begin her work. This site holds historical significance as it was once home to the St Andrew’s Church, and it’s fantastic to see development moving forward with care and respect for the past. Exciting times ahead for our town — progress, heritage, iwi and community all coming together. #WSPinMarlborough

WSP was proud to sponsor the Innovation Forum at this year’s IWA-ASPIRE Water New Zealand Conference & Expo 2025 in Ōtautahi Christchurch — a space dedicated to bold ideas and future-focused solutions for our water industry. Congratulations to the Syrinx team on winning the Innovation Award for THE ENPHYTOBOX® — a mobile, nature-based water treatment technology. The judges praised its circular design, net-zero energy use, and meaningful collaboration with local iwi. A truly inspiring example of innovation grounded in sustainability and partnership. We also celebrate Mohammad Al-A’raj who received an honourable mention for SMARTWAI — an AI-powered platform helping households and small businesses monitor and optimise water use in real time. Thank you to all who submitted ideas and helped make the forum a success. We’re proud to support innovation that strengthens Aotearoa NZ’s water future. 📸 Pictured from left to right Priyan Perera, Award co-presenter, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at Watercare Services Limited, and President-Elect at Water NZ; Phoebe Tinning, NZ Program Manager for Syrinx Environmental; Aleisha Mitchell from Te Komiti Nui o Ngāti Whakaue on behalf of the project partners; Fawaaz Farook, Award co-presenter, Water Engineer at WSP.
