Every 2027 Africa plan I see names the markets and the revenue targets. Very few name who gets employed, where, and under which contract. That gap shows up in February. The board signs off on two new markets. Legal starts an entity process that runs three to six months and costs $10,000 to $50,000 per country. The first hire sits waiting while someone else is already operating in that market. Workpay is running a live session on 4 November on the workforce side of an expansion plan. What it costs to employ people in a new African country. Where compliance breaks when you enter several markets at once. Bring the plan you already have. The questions you cannot answer in that hour are the ones worth taking back to your board. 4 November, 4PM EAT. Register here: https://skd.so/1sTcKW #ExpansionAfrica #GlobalWorkforce

Boards are approving their 2027 Africa expansion plans right now. Most teams decide the workforce model behind those plans three months later, under time pressure. By then the structure is set by default. An entity in one country, a local provider in the next, and no single owner for the compliance calendar across either. Companies that expand this way end up managing five or six payroll vendors. Each with its own deadlines and formats. The coordination lands on the finance team at the end of every month. Three decisions set that outcome early. How you employ people in each country. Whether payroll runs on one engine. Who tracks filing dates and minimum wage changes in a market before you enter it. None of this gets cheaper later. The Workpay webinar on 4 November covers workforce strategy for Africa expansion. 4PM EAT. Register here: https://skd.so/qxUuMC #PayrollAfrica #HRCompliance

The biggest myth about hiring compliantly in Africa is that it has to be slow. It does not. Employees never experience your legal setup. They experience how fast their contract arrives and how clearly their pay is explained. On the podcast, Jacque, who leads our People team, made this concrete. People want their contract rolled out fast. They want to understand their pay and benefits from day one, not a month in. Get that right and speed and compliance stop competing. We once onboarded one client across three countries at the same time. Engineers in Kenya, salespeople in Nigeria, each under different local rules. It still ran smoothly, because the compliance work sat in the background. When compliant hiring feels slow, it is usually the basics that were skipped, not the compliance itself. #PayrollAfrica #HRCompliance #AfricanBusiness

Kenya changed NSSF to a two-tier system. Every employer had to apply it, file it correctly, and explain it to staff. Get one step wrong and it shows up as a penalty or a confused payslip. Cynthia Wanjiku handles payroll for a non-profit in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. Three countries means three sets of statutory rules, and they keep changing. She called one of these moments a real success. "The change being effected on Workpay and being communicated to our staff is a big success for us." In practice, it came down to a few things: ✔️ Kenya's NSSF two-tier update applied on the system, then explained to staff ✔️ Rwanda's statutory changes handled the same way, without a local payroll hire in-country ✔️ Accurate deductions, month after month, as rules shift Cynthia explains the cross-border compliance side in the clip below. #PayrollAfrica

The most expensive assumption I still hear: Africa is one large market. Africa is as diverse as its 54 countries. Some share borders. Some sit in the same regional bloc. That does not make them the same place to operate. Compliance is different. Tax is different. Banking infrastructure is different. Lagos does not run like Nairobi. So build the continental strategy. You should have one. But the moment it turns into operations, it is country by country, and that is where a good plan starts to leak. A continental strategy and a country-by-country operation are two different documents. You need both. #ExpansionAfrica #PayrollAfrica #AfricanBusiness

Payroll day, three countries, and no tax expert in any of them. Iddy Wycliffe runs finance for Silensec Africa and Cyber Ranges Africa across Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia. Two entities, three branches, no payroll staff on the ground in any of those markets. The test came four days before a month-end. Management ruled that every consultant on the Tanzania team had to become an employee. The details went into Workpay, local rules applied, and everyone was paid that same month. Iddy explains it in this video. If month-end across several African markets still costs your team days, the full case study is worth a read.
