I used to actively avoid letting agents. Not just because of one bad experience but a series of them that left me out of pocket, frustrated, and totally disillusioned. One agent let £5,000 worth of window repairs rot away. Literally. So I thought, “I'll just manage my properties myself.” That didn’t go well either. Unpaid rent. Tax chaos. A tenant whose guarantor was overseas and didn’t believe me. I even lost out on a £90k grant because the council thought I hadn’t paid council tax (it was the tenants). The irony? I was trying to protect my investment... and I was doing the opposite. It’s why @westernlettings exists now. Not just to do better but to make sure landlords don’t have to choose between “shabby” agents and doing it all alone. Because either way, the cost of getting it wrong is huge. And if we ever get it wrong. We’ll fix it.

I never planned to start a lettings company. Back in 2008, I was just a landlord who kept getting let down - rent arrears, late-night calls and endless paperwork. It was overwhelming and I knew if I was struggling, so were thousands of others. That frustration became the spark for Western Lettings. I wanted to build the kind of agency I wished had existed for me: transparent, supportive and simple to deal with. Fast-forward to today - we manage over 1,000 properties.
