Sustained casing pressure (SCP) prevented. Cement barriers can be vulnerable to channelling, microannuli or debonding, and this combination of factors was suspected to be the cause of B-annulus SCP for a North Sea operator. Effective multistage fracturing depends on reliable zonal isolation, in this case facilitating a 10-stage targeted proppant frac exactly as planned in tight sandstone formations. Welltec® metal expandable packer technology provided zonal isolation while simultaneously anchoring in the formation. The slim running OD also provided enhanced annular clearance enabling the liner to be reamed and rotated to planned depth. An effective permanent openhole plug is crucial when managing formation challenges. When a UK North Sea operator encountered a water-producing zone, Welltec® reconfigured its metal expandable packer technology to create an openhole plug assembly combining a Welltec® Annular Barrier (WAB®) and Welltec® Isolation Valve (WIV®). The setting sequence was easily activated and completed by a single ball drop.
