Your managers are already managing mental health. But have you equipped them to do it safely and effectively? Every day, people managers make decisions that can either prevent psychological harm or contribute to it. When an employee experiences work-related stress, discloses a mental health condition, goes off sick or prepares to return to work, their manager's response matters. And the consequences of getting it wrong go far beyond sickness absence. The latest HSE figures show that 22.1 million working days were lost to work-related stress, depression and anxiety in 2024/25. But there are other risks that employers cannot afford to overlook: ⚖️Legal compliance: Failing to assess and manage work-related stress risks. 🙍Discrimination: Failing to recognise mental health disabilities and consider reasonable adjustments. 🧠Psychiatric injury: Potential liability where foreseeable psychological harm is not reasonably prevented. 📉Business performance: Increased sickness absence, presenteeism, reduced productivity and employee turnover. Managers don't need to become mental health professionals. They need the knowledge, skills, confidence and practical tools to fulfil their management responsibilities and your legal duties as an employer. That's why we developed our Level 3 Preventing Work-related Stress & Supporting Mental Health for Managers training 8 years ago which is now our most delivered course. We equip managers to recognise and manage workplace stress risks, have confident conversations, support colleagues experiencing mental health difficulties and manage sickness absence and return to work more effectively. This is about more than awareness. It's about developing the capability to protect employees and organisations. 💬"I would encourage all managers to attend this course no matter how experienced they are in this subject as everyone can always learn and take something positive away from a course like this." Manager PD Ports If preventing work-related stress, reducing sickness absence and strengthening legal compliance are priorities for your organisation, start with your managers. 📘 Download our FREE Level 3 Course Guide to discover how Wellbeing Lead Academy can support your organisation. Most workplace mental health strategies are built to respond. An employee assistance programme, a team of mental health first aiders, an awareness week in May. All useful once someone is struggling. None of them changes the conditions that caused the struggle. Work-related stress, depression and anxiety account for 62 per cent of working days lost to work-related ill health in Great Britain. Most of that is set upstream, in workload, work design, management capability and how change is led. That is also where the legal duty sits. Employers are required to assess and manage the risk of work-related stress, not just support people after it has done its damage. At Adient, working with our Mental Health Culture Change Framework, stress and mental health-related sickness absence fell by 41 per cent in 12 months. On Thursday 15 October, our founder Emily Pearson is running a free one-hour CPD masterclass on how the framework works and how to apply it in your own organisation. You will: - benchmark where your culture sits today: At Risk, Box Ticked, Mentally Healthy or Inspiring - see why awareness and support alone cannot prevent work-related stress understand the evidence and legal responsibilities underneath it - leave with a way to turn gaps into a prioritised action plan It is built for wellbeing leads, HR, occupational health, health and safety, and senior leaders who own people and culture. Everyone who attends live receives a CPD certificate. 12pm to 1pm UK time, online. The link to reserve your place is in the comments. #WorkplaceMentalHealth #WorkRelatedStress #HumanSustainability

Published today: Solving a CEO's Blind Spot: Human Sustainability, by our founder Emily Pearson. Emily works with CEOs and boards to solve one of the biggest blind spots in modern leadership: how organisations design work that sustains people and performance over time. This book sets out the argument in full, along with the nine principles of stewardship that determine whether an organisation builds capacity in its people or drains it. "The most competitive organisations of the next decade will be led by CEOs who understand this message. This book shows why human sustainability is no longer optional, it is decisive." Michael Hall, CEO, EQS Launch price for the first 72 hours: Kindle £1.99, paperback £5.99. Link in the comments. #HumanSustainability #Leadership #WorkplaceWellbeing
