Two ships available. Two possible trades. Which one really earns more? Fleet positioning is often discussed in terms of available tonnage, cargo opportunities, freight and bunker costs. The weather allowance belongs in that conversation too. A route with more exposure to seasonal winds, waves or currents can imply additional passage days and consumption that won't be visible in a simple distance comparison. That can change how two opportunities look in a voyage-estimation model. Route- and season-sensitive Sea Margin data can become an input to a team's own TCE and positioning calculations, alongside the commercial variables they already use. Weathernews doesn't choose the next fixture. It gives your tools a richer basis for comparing the options. Explore the API data.

One weather forecast for an entire voyage can be a blunt instrument. Conditions near departure may be calm while the next stretch is shaped by a different swell or wind pattern. What matters is where and when a vessel is expected to be, not only the forecast for the departure port. For teams building planning and monitoring tools, that raises a practical question: how do you make weather information available at the points that matter to a voyage? Weathernews Weather on Track returns wind, wave, swell and ocean-current information for requested locations and times, so teams can integrate marine weather context into their own applications. Explore the API parameters.

A stronger freight rate doesn't necessarily mean a stronger TCE. The number agreed at fixture is only one part of the voyage economics. Passage days and fuel consumption also shape what remains. An optimistic weather allowance can make a voyage estimate look attractive right up until extra time at sea starts affecting earnings. This is why sea-margin assumptions deserve the same scrutiny as speed, consumption and bunker cost. They influence the economics of the voyage, not just the ETA. Weathernews Sea Margin makes route-related margin data available for integration into the chartering calculations teams already use. The commercial decision deserves more than a blanket percentage.

A weather screenshot is useful. Until someone has to turn it into a product feature. A fleet platform might need to show conditions beside a planned route or combine marine weather context with its own operational information. That is not quite the same problem as giving a person another weather tab to check. The underlying data needs to be available to the application itself - in a structure that the product team can request and present in the right context. Weathernews Weather on Track provides point-specific marine weather data through a JSON API. The software team decides how to apply it in its own interface and workflow. See the supported data fields.

A line on a chart is not the same as knowing the conditions along it. In a maritime product, a route can be drawn in seconds. Understanding what may be happening at particular positions and times is a different data problem. Wind, significant wave height, swell and ocean currents do not arrive as one interchangeable number. Their relevance changes with location and timing and with the question the user is trying to answer. Weathernews Weather on Track lets teams request marine weather information for specified geographic points and times in JSON, so they can bring that context into their own applications. Explore the available data fields and API structure.

What exactly are we allowing for when we add 5%? Weather margin isn't just a precautionary number in a spreadsheet. It's an allowance for the effect of weather and sea conditions on a voyage compared with ideal conditions, especially additional time at sea and the associated fuel implications. But applying the same allowance to every voyage hides the difference between routes, seasons, speeds and vessel operating conditions. The question isn't whether 5% is always wrong. It's whether it is an appropriate assumption for this voyage. Weathernews Sea Margin offers route-related data, and its area-to-area API includes monthly margin, weather and current factors that can inform a team's own estimating workflow. A useful margin starts with understanding what drives it.
