♻️ Ask us anything: Energy from Waste Question: "What exactly is Energy from Waste?" Energy from Waste (also called "energy recovery") transforms waste that can’t be recycled into valuable energy — electricity and heat for communities. Think of it as giving waste a second life when recycling isn't possible. Here's how it works: 🔥 Waste combusts at 850°C+ in controlled conditions ⚡ Heat generates steam that drives turbines 🏘️ Electricity goes to the grid, powering homes ♻️ Metals are extracted from ash for recycling 🌍 3 tonnes of waste replaces 1 tonne of coal This is proven technology used worldwide. Over 450 facilities operate safely across Europe (operated by various companies), many in major cities as well as agricultural regions. Veolia operates more than 60 energy recovery facilities globally, bringing this expertise to Australia. As Australia's waste crisis intensifies and landfill capacity diminishes, Energy from Waste provides a sustainable solution for materials that simply cannot be recycled. It's not an alternative to recycling — it handles what's left after we've recycled everything we can. ❓ What else would you like to know? 🐢 Meet Vurtle the Turtle! We're thrilled to announce the name of our stunning turtle sculpture, created entirely from beach waste collected along Australian coastlines. After receiving so many creative suggestions from our community and team, we're excited to introduce: Vurtle the Turtle! 🎉 Vurtle has been calling Taronga Zoo Sydney home since late September, raising awareness about the devastating impact of plastic pollution on our marine wildlife. Made from fishing nets, ship waste, packaging, and even toothbrushes found on our beaches, Vurtle is a powerful message. You still have time to visit! Vurtle will be on display at Taronga Zoo Sydney until Sunday 9th November, before moving to our Pyrmont Head Office in Sydney where it will continue to inspire action. Every year, over 40 marine turtles are admitted to Taronga Wildlife Hospital after ingesting plastic or becoming entangled in debris. Through our long-standing partnership with Taronga Conservation Society Australia, we're supporting vital turtle rehabilitation, release programs and satellite tracking initiatives. A huge thank you to renowned artist David Day for bringing Vurtle to life, and to everyone who participated in naming our newest team member. 🌊 Ready to make a difference? Join our #VeoliaTurtleCircle CleanUp Challenge and help protect our oceans and marine life here: https://lnkd.in/gdekKQcE 💭 Have you met Vurtle yet? Share your photos and tag us!

🐢 This month, we launched our Turtle Circle CleanUp Challenge — and our team was keen to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. Our Marketing, Communications and Sustainability teams recently headed down to the beach near Taronga Zoo Sydney to see firsthand the impact of plastic pollution on our coastlines. In just a short time, the amount of rubbish collected was confronting — but every piece removed is one less threat to our marine wildlife. This is what our partnership with Taronga Conservation Society Australia is all about: turning awareness into action. Our turtle sculpture at Taronga shows the problem. Our CleanUp Challenge is part of the solution. Since launching, we've invited all 7,000 of our people across Veolia Australia and New Zealand to join in — from our operations teams to our head office crew. Because protecting our oceans, waterways and marine life takes all of us. Ready to make a difference? Here's how you can join the Turtle Circle CleanUp Challenge: 🏖️ Head to your local beach, waterway or park 🧤 Pick up rubbish safely (a good sturdy pair of gloves) 📸 Snap a photo of your CleanUp 📱 Share it with #VeoliaTurtleCircle The rubbish we collect today protects the oceans tomorrow. 🌊 💭 Are you taking part? Let us know in the comments! #GreenUp

🐢 Say hello to our newest team member! Why did we ask renowned artist David Day to create this stunning sea turtle sculpture entirely from beach waste we hear you ask? Because at Veolia Australia and New Zealand, our 7,000 team members are committed to protecting our lands, waterways and marine wildlife through clean water, recycled waste and renewable energy solutions. Our job is simple: clean up, reuse and purify. 💧♻️ Together with our incredible partners at Taronga Conservation Society Australia, we're taking action to inspire everyone to keep our oceans free from waste. This powerful installation — made from fishing nets, ship waste and packaging found on Australian beaches — shows both the devastating impact of plastic pollution AND the beauty of transformation. Every year, around 40 marine turtles are admitted to Taronga Wildlife Hospital after ingesting plastic or becoming entangled in debris. Through our long-term partnership supporting turtle rehabilitation, release and satellite tracking, we're working to change this story. Let's turn the tide on waste - so our turtles and future generations can enjoy oceans free of waste! 🌊 The sculpture will call Taronga Zoo Sydney home for six weeks during the NSW spring school holidays, and guess what? You get to name our turtle! Comment below with your suggestions. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gdekKQcE #VeoliaTurtleCircle Richard Kirkman, Nick Boyle
