AI has become a standard part of engineers’ daily work. Teams often see quick wins such as faster coding, easier test generation, and less manual effort, yet delivery speed, quality, and predictability frequently stay the same. From what we see at Vention, the problem isn’t the tools themselves, but how AI is layered onto processes that were never designed for it. That’s why we treat AI as part of the development model. This approach shaped our 5-Stage AI SDLC Maturity Model, focused on process change and measurable delivery impact rather than tool adoption. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔.𝐒. 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭, 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭: 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐈 I often hear the argument that with AI, faster is always better. In practice, this only holds true in some markets. The “move fast” logic works well in the U.S., but I see it break down when applied unchanged in Europe. Here, speed often triggers early regulatory friction, internal resistance, or failed launches that erode trust in the next AI initiative. What matters is not speed alone, but which kind of speed leadership optimizes for. Teams frequently mix up two very different things: • how quickly AI starts delivering visible value • how much change an organization, market, and regulatory environment can absorb without pushback Optimizing launch timelines without accounting for risk, trust, and adoption often delays sustainable value instead of accelerating it. From what I’ve observed, there is no single “right” pace for AI. In some markets, rapid scaling creates advantage. In others, phased rollout and demonstrated stability matter far more. This pattern is well documented in Vention’s Global Adoption, Local Strategy whitepaper, based on insights from 480+ senior technology leaders across the US, UK, and DACH. Geography and risk appetite often shape AI outcomes more than the technology itself.
